Went to Oscoda Fri and Sat 5/2 and 5/3 and was surf fishing for browns. Friday went 0 for 3. Sat started out losing one and then landed a nice 24 incher. then lost another. All by 8:00 a.m.
Pulled lines and rested for the afternoon and went back out at 5:00 p.m. Only out there about 10 minutes and I hook into a monster. I never seen one so big and using a 9.5 ft rod and a short river net used for steelies everytime I tried to net it it would just make another run. I ended up holding the rod about half way down it with the reel in the water trying to be able to reach the fish with the net. Finally after a long battle got him in. It was huge!! I never had a fish mounted before and I knew I was mounting this one. I took it to Wellmans as they have a certified scale and it weighed in at 16.59 pounds. We looked up in the book for master angler and it requires 16 pounds. So very excited. Good weekend over all up there. Went 3 for 8, using 1 pole with a live smelt and the other tossing a cleo. All but 1 hit came on the cleo. Also tried smelt friday got 88, sat 0.
The fish was also 36 inches long.

Sweet man! Got any Pics? I'd like to see what that hog looked like! Hopefully you had a camera with you to capture the moment and get a few pics while it was still alive.

All I can say is "Wow"

It must have been tough to land one of those "bulldogs" from the beach.

If you have any trouble posting the pics, feel free to Pm/email me.
