A group of us went fishing on AuSable and had a great time. Hit the water on Thursday had a nice Henny hatch with good fishing for about two hours. A number of fish were caught, the largest 15 inch brown on dark hendrickson. My best was about a 13 incher on a black caddis with trailing shuck. A massive spinner fall started to take palce about 2 in the afternoon but the spinners never hit the water. The nights were cold so no spinner fall. There was ice in the dog bowl and our boots were frozen solid every morning. Day tems got in the low 50s.

Friday, again henny about 2pm in afternoon down near Wakely bridge and about a hour of fishing then swinging black caddis taking a few more.

Sat we fished the Manistee, we had a light henny hatch about 3pm with some fun small fish takend but nothing huge.

Sunday we caught some fun fish, slow and the black caddis was the only thing working.

I watched one young man just hammer a nice 18 plus inch fish near the Wakely bridge nymphing deep with a doube rig, bead head hairs ear and pheasant tail. He picked up the fish deep, his leader must have been 10ft deep past his strike indicator and he played the fish like a champ!!! Great to see young people getting into the sport and doing darn well.

New boo rod did a respectable showing, had some massive hits on streamers but then all those hits feel good to me.

We ended our trip up to the Thendara (sp) road areas to see if the hatch was heaver upstream. I found a pod of brookes feeding heavy on the nice caddis popuilation. The fish would follow or look at my caddis, manage to take one on a size 20 parachute adams but ended up using a 22 griffins nate to fool a few into hitting the fly. Never had a hook up on that little hook but did have it in the mouth of them. Looks like early season skills need to be honed up or just getting old.

A fun weekend and good food.,
