I had a nice encounter with a young buck Sunday morning. I was quietly fishing a small stream when I noticed a fairly well used game trail. Just as I was looking the area over, sure enough, there was a deer walking down the trail towards the stream. The wind was on my side luckily so he never realized I was there. He came to the waters edge cautiously but felt comfortable enough to drink at leisure. He was approximately 20 ft from me at this point. I though for sure he would hear me breathing...thought for a moment I was in a tree stand! He would pause occasionaly to scan the surroundings and then get back to business. This lasted a few minutes, though it seemed much longer at the time. Finally he turned and left in the same direction he came. You could just see some little nubs on his forehead. Anyway, it's always a great experience to be so close to such a animal...the highlight of my weekend.

Howdy, SM-

You are indeed fortunate to have seen him while he was unaware of your presence........

Thanks for painting a picture we can all enjoy.

That is the greatest thing. To be out doing something that you love and have an experience like that just fall in your lap!

Hunting - Fishing - Mushrooming - being outside in nature. Can't beat it!
