Latest on HB6147 (The Dove Bill)
Yesterday evening, the Michigan House moved HB6147 over to the Senate, after
Democrat Liz Brater, at the last minute before the vote on her motion to
reconsider HB6147, withdrew her motion to reconsider the bill. We're still
trying to figure that one out.
This afternoon, Thursday, November 30, in room 100 of the Farnum Building in
Lansing, at 2:00 PM, Senator Phil Hoffman's committee on Hunting, Fishing
and Forestry will hear testimony on HB6147.
Here is what you need to do to help get this bill passed into law.
Action Item 1: Write a letter supporting this bill and fax it to:
Senator Phil Hoffman
Chairman Senate Committee on Hunting, Fishing and Forestry
Fax# 517-373-2964
Use the attached Fiction and Fantasy vs. Facts document to help you
construct your letter.
Action Item 2: Start contacting the members of the Senate (see the list
below), especially the senator from your area, and encourage them to vote in
favor of HB6147 with no amendments. It is extremely important that this
bill is not amended in any way, as this would require it to go back to the
house, and there simply is not enough time for this! If you need to find
out who your senator is, and have internet access, follow these
instructions:
* Go to the Wildlife Legislative Fund of America web site at www.wlfa.org. (http://www.wlfa.org.)
* Scroll down and click on "Guide to the States".
* Click on the state of Michigan.
* Enter your Zip Code (+4 if you know it), or browse the list.
* Click on your Michigan State Senator's name and it will give you all
info, including phone no. and e-mail address.
If you don't have internet access, simply call the secretary of the senate
at 517-373-2400 and ask who your senator is. They will probably need to
know where you live in order to tell you who that individual is.
Action Item 3: Call Senate Majority Leader Dan DeGrow (517-373-7708, FAX:
517-373-1450). He must be persuaded to hear this bill immediately after it
passes Senator Hoffman's committee, so that it doesn't sit until next
Tuesday when the Senate is due back in session. If the bill is not heard
until next Tuesday, the antis will have all weekend to inundate the
newspapers, radio shows and legislators with their drivel.
Please, please, please take some time, RIGHT NOW, to take care of the Action
Items above.
