fished thunder bay last night. caught one 5# walleye on a #18 rapala. the wind shifted from the north and the fishing went south. i'll give it another try saturday night.

I've never tried for walleye on thunder bay - how's the traffic there? Was hoping to get up this weekend - boss may have different plans. If I hand here, I may try for some big lake perch. I've yet to catch one and I've tried serval times over the past couple years. Seems unless you're willing to lock-into a pack of 50 boats you can't get on a school.

fishfoote,
we had a tourney on thunder bay this weekend. fishing is still not at its peak, but we should have had 5 eye's. they would take the board back and about two reels and it would be off. we did get one 9# walleye into the boat.
i tried to get my buddy to bite the bullet on your boat, but i couldn't get him to spend the extra money.

9# - that's a nice fish! Did you see that article in the Alcona paper with the picture of the walleyes and browns - monster eyes! Thanks for the pitch to your buddy - seem's to be a general lack of interest in the boat...saw a few guys offering comparable boats a lower prices, so maybe I'm high (on the pricing). I'm going to concede ownership for now - took it over to get a cockpit cover put on this morning so I won't have to go wading to cover it on the hoist. The lake was awesome this weekend. I went up to do some yard work and couldn't believe I saw only one boat out fishing..should have brought my boat up. You never said how traffic is in the thunder bay - I ask because over here the channel can be a zoo when the fishing's good. Also any word on smelt or morels would be greatly appreciated!:D

I used to troll up river from the mouth to where it shallows just downstream from the 6th street bridge(or is the 9th street) with hot and tots. We would do pretty good on the eyes and also pick up some suspended catfish, and hog sheephead at the mouth.
The locals would tell us to go cast the humps at night for the big eyes, but we never did.

fishfoote,
traffic in the river mouth can be bad, but i usually run in the bay itself and that isn't bad. more traffic then hubbard, but you would expect that. harrisville was giving up some really nice eyes. my one griend pulled 4 fish four 32# one morning running the break wall.
i talked to a guy that got 2.5 gallons of smelt of sturgeon point friday. still been hit or miss.
no word on mushrooms yet. would be nice to get a warm rain sometime soon.

I think we're coming up this weekend...if so, I'll definitely be looking for some smelt and mushrooms! I don't think docks are going in for a couple weeks yet. Thanks for the info -
