I have gone out to Cass quite a few times and I have not had really good luck. Can anyone tell me some good locations to look for and what kind of tactics I should be using.

Have had good luck with the smallies using light colored tubes (white, sand, etc) 1/8 to 1/4 oz, fishing the flats near the primary drops. Look for points and inside bends.

Good Luck.

at this point in the spring, the smallies are starting to stage outside of their respective spawning areas.

i would try throwing a clown colored jerkbait over sand/gravel areas and points. this has worked for me in many clear water environments for smallies. also, use the soft jerk baits (zoom flukes), in natural forage colors. another lure worth trying is burning a chartreuse/white willow leaf spinnerbait just below the surface across the same areas mentioned above. 3/8 to 1/2 ounce seem to stay under the water surface while being at a higher retrieve speed.

as stated by gonefishin.....tubes are a mainstay for smallies. you can experiment with colors, but the natural colors seem to be the best. you may also catch a largemouth with the tubes, depending on the area.

for largemouth....i would concentrate in the back bay areas and channels that are abundant on cass lake. the back bay near the launch is a good area to start. use the fluke style soft jerk baits in these areas as well as spinnerbaits, worms and jig&pig combos. shad color hard jerk baits will catch them as well. find the warmest water you can, and you will find the most active largemouth.

good luck......tight lines to ya
