Went walleye fishin tuesday at AuGres from10:00am til 2:00pm. Took my limit in 26 to 18fow, using planer boards and husky jerks in black and silver. The bigest was a spawned out 29 incher! The river temp was 55 and the bay was 47. Good fishin!

Nice catch there Big Shooter. Notice any action going on to the north of au Gres nearer to the point ? Ya know them smelt netters staked out there should be doing their thing and them fish will be cruising just outside of the nets. Big fun !!!

Ya whale, we usually fish in the shallower water at night. When the smelt are in its an easy limit, but I like to fish in the daylight when they'll bite. Backlash nailed them saturday afternoon and filled me in, and the results prooved him right on the money! We fished from the river all the way north to the point. This thunder storm might help bring in some smelt and the eye's will be there with them. Good fishin!

I was there 3 weeks ago and it was the best landing I have been to this year. Channel is about 6ft deep.

If your talking about the maple river its full snags and to shallow for my boat. Its 10 times worse than the tib.

we will probably stay at the best western in town if i dont drag the motor home up there also...i live in bad axe so it aint to far of a drive..have never fished that side of the bay before..will be a new experience...my friend used to fish it all the time when he had the bait shop over ther a couple years ago so at least i wont be going totally blind...lol

If you got some boards and some sticks its like taking candy from a baby.We go out the dnr launch and head north to the point. We mix up the bait till something works and sometimes we even run spoons of the balls real shallow.

Stien. my best trolling speed was between 1.3 and 1.8 mph. I'm watching the weather and am planing to go when the winds not bad. All I was fishin was 2 rods off my drivers side board, I can't imagine how much fun it would be to run 6 or 8 lures. Wow. Good fishin!

I'll be in the Au Gres/Tawas area next week and plan on fishing both areas. I've never tried AuGres for walleye before.

Question:

Do you troll near the point or do you troll from the river mouth on a heading toward the point? In other words, is the water between the river mouth and the point productive or do you run to the point before starting.

Also, how far out do you have to go to get to 18-24 ft?

BrianS, The fish I caught were scattered from the north point to the river. I saw some boats fishing from the south point to the river. I don't think they're really schooled up like in the summer. I do know at night they come in shallow( 8 to 12fow ) and are more concentrated around the smelt, find the smelt at night and it's easy pickens. Word to the wise; weekends get busy and combine that with darkness... well lets just say some people are less considerate than others. I try to stay away from the crowds at night so I don't loose any lures or my boards. If you fish at night I recomend having a spotlight on board to shine on your boards or lighted boards. Good fishin! P.S. To get to 26fow is really close and both points protect you from any west winds. Northeast is the worst!

Thanks!

I'll probably be out there next Wed, thru Fri (7th to 9th). I'll be at the cabin (no electricity) turkey hunting so I won't be able to post any reports until 12 May.
