Does anybody know of any places in central MI that has blue gills on beds. I'm looking for any options for tomorrow. Just don't want to get skunked. Haven't had many opportunities this last year. I need to catch something.

Lake St. Helen has some great Bluegill fishing, from what I've heard.

bluegills will not be on the beds this time of year in mich. They move shallow around emergent vegatation due to the fact these areas warm quicker. They will not start to bed until middle of may. I have found in this area gills seem to start seriously bedding closer to memorial Day. Many of the bigger gills do not start till later in june. Thier beds are usually in deeper water well out of sight and it takes a longer time for the water to reach a temp. that is suitiable for spawning.
As to pick a lake right now I would look for a lake with good emergant vegataion above water yet preferably a black bottom. In water less than 4'. Start your search along north and east shores of the lake. Man made canals can be hot this time of year due to the fact the Surface water is not being mixed with the cooler water below by the wind.

When the Lilacs are in bloom, the Bluegills should be on the beds.

find some weeds a dark bottom in shallow water you will catch fish. i was catching some nice gills fishing in two feet of water around lily pad roots on the west and n west shore. the key is dark bottom with weeds or sometype of structure the dark bottom holds heat so the water is warmer.

i was catching some nice gills on smaller beetle spins a couple weeks ago. the fish were around 8 inches, and very aggresively hitting my lure.

after reading the above replies, i recall the areas that the fish came from, was darker bottom waters near downed trees.

the lake was in south-central michigan, but similar results should hold true to your area as well.

good luck.
