i am thinking of fishing the channels on Chippewa Lake this weekend for crappie. Has anyone fished there this year, are the crappie starting up there?
I was on Chippewa April 19. Did not catch anything, only had some waxworms with me. It was more to make sure the boat was running good. Did not know there was a channel on the lake. I went over where the creek flows under the road.

Fishing has been fairly decent in the channels for panfish lately. I have not been there for a week or two. The main Lake was at 49 degrees this weekend when my dad went for walleyes.
Chad, There really not channels but man made canals for the home owners not right on the water. Shallow black bottom areas. At the tube this time of year I have never done well on panfish, this time of year the northerns seem to congregate there. Excellent spawning habitat on the other side of the road.

if your in that area, you might want to give jensen lake a try. i have never targeted that lake myself for crappie, but last year while pike fishing (same time of year), we couldnt keep them off our #5 aglias.

We gave the cannals on Chippewa Lake \a good try on Saturday. We only ended up with three crappie, and all the small gills you wanted to clean. At least my first fresh fish dinner of the season was a success.
