I'm looking at a lab/ grey hound mix that someone doesn't want any more.I don't know how it will fare as a bird dog with this other breed in it and was wondering if anyone here owns or hunts with a labmix and how their retriever instinct is?
I do alot of waterfowling and haven't had a dog in years.Don't have time to do the pup training thing and looking at some of the adopt-a pets.
Any input would be great.
Thanks,
Mule

i had a lab/golden retreiver cross and two german shorthair who knows what cross they were all good dogs for birds. i have hunted coyotes in montana with my cousin using grey hounds they were excited about running the coyote based on sight but if you don't have time to spent with the dog no matter the breed you will have an uphill fight to get what you would like out of the dog.

I have a lab mixed with an unknown dog. I don't if I can help though since mine is probably 95% lab and I found her in college and never worked training with her.
If you are looking for a retriever, make sure the dog has webbed feet. It will make it a better swimmer. It's a crap shoot on how the dog will hunt but with some lab in it and training you can teach almost any dog to hunt. I'm guessing that with grey hound in it the dog will be somewhat high strung which could hamper it or be a blessing.
