This is not a joke, I did it on April 16th.

Due to some quirk in the law, all four credit reporting bureaus will be allowed to let ANYONE who requests it, to receive your personal information or credit profile. Obviously for a price.

To opt out of this mess forever, dial 1-888-567-8688, ignore Option One, they want to be able to sell your information.

Choose Option Two, then wait for Option 3. They will request your phone number, if you think this is a joke, they will respond with your street address. Follow the instructions and take the option away from the credit bureaus and the snoops who want to get their greedy paws on your personal information.

You will need the legal name and social security number of any other member of your household who you wish to be removed from their system.:) If you don't do it you may be

Later:p

My daughter's business is mortgage closings. S

She said that this sounds like a scam. By putting in your social security number they can take credit out on it. But it doesn't really help anyone to see a copy of your credit report anyway...

So beware of anyone asking for social security numbers for any reason.

I remember the e-mail circulating a couple years ago, did not pay attention to it then. But with the recent events, I decided to "opt out". We will see what they send us in the mail in the next 5 days, who it is from and what the letter says.

I found some credible information verifying this procedure. The link below gives more information.

Zofchak: Nice read, don't care, we opted out! Still think it is a good thing to do! Have been doing a little research. Every one seems to have taken the weekend off, will find out more on Monday or Tuesday.

Just a word to the wise!

Checked the A.G.s web site and found out that opting out will remove your name from various banks, credit card companies and who ever else wants to pay for your information. It appears that this will prevent your mail box from being flooded with credit card offers and may prevent tele-marketers from calling you at all hours, especially while you are eating dinner.

A.G. also will let you print out a form "Demand for removal from Direct Marketing Association Telephone and Mailing Lists" and a "Credit & Insurance Offers Opt Out Form" if you are uncomfortable giving out your personal information to a stranger over the telephone. Attorney General also displays a toll free number 1-888-567-8688 to opt out, which is the same number as in the original post!

You make the decesion!

As Sgt. Friday used to say "just the facts mam, just the facts"

P.S.: you want to piss off all those credit card companies that constantly send you credit card offers, send the postage paid return envelope back to the company, EMPTY!

Since this orginal post we have received less junk mail, only one known telemarketer call and a letter from the four major credit reporting agencies, EQUIFAX-EXPERIAN-INNOVIS-TRANS-UNION confirming our request to opt-out of them releasing any information to any preapproved credit offer mailings, permanently, which we have signed and returned.

If your credit report was to fall into the wrong persons hands, your financial future could be ruined! Make your own decesion!
