Pollywog:
Yeah, I did some handlining yesterday just north of Mud Island. Got a 5 pounder up to the boat pretty quick but was too lazy to get my net. The fish got off when I tried to hoist it over the gunnel. Then I got my handline into the prop wash and cut off my shank, with two lures and a 2# sinker. The wire had a large bead and a crimp still on it, so I thought I could be back in business in a few minutes, because I've got spares of everything on board. Guess what? I cut the bead and crimp off to make a new connection and let the wire slip out of my hands into the handline reel. So, after fishing just a couple of hours I gave up and went home.
I talked to some jiggers on the river Monday, and only a few had a couple of fish. I didn't talk to any other handliners, but I suspect that I would have done well had I stuck it out. :)
