Handlining Friday and Sunday..With a lesson learned

Well finally made it out to Trenton this weekend. Friday fished about 3 ½ hours with no fish. Had to call it a day when I had problems with the handline reel, trailer and boat. But heck it still beats work!!! On the way home stopped by Horse Island Tackle shop on Fort and West and he fixed my reel. 7 Buck and he did it on the spot. I thought I was going to have to leave it there. Not real easy when you live an hour and a half away. Got home and started on the repairs. Ended up getting everything back in working order and decide to go and try it again on Sunday. After a late Saturday night we got a late start Sunday morning. Headed out of Wyandotte. Steve and Kathy the owners sure seem like some great people! My dad and I fished for about 4 hours with no luck. Water looked better than Friday. Let me tell you it was the slowest I have ever seen it. Anyway got home on Sunday to a ticked off little man. My 8 year old son was HOT that I didn’t take him. I felt like a low life. I was worried about all the things I had go wrong on Friday and wanted to make sure we were up to snuff for safety reasons. After explaining that to him he was better. He kept telling me he could have helped me fix things and he would make sure we were safe. Damn they grow up fast!!! I learned allot this weekend and the most important thing I learned is he ‘s not such a little dude anymore. I wish he would have been with us but at the same time I am thankful that everything is in working order and I will feel much safer about taking him.
