The maiden voyage on the river was a great one. Weather was perfect with air temp near 40 at 6:30 a.m., but the best thing: the wind was almost non-existent. Clear blue skies and muddy water hindered fishing, IMHO. Picked up jigs and minnows at the Dip Net (Southfield/Jefferson), launched from Ecorse Municipal Launch (I thought it was Wyandotte, LOL) at 6:30 and were jigging in front of BASF by 6:45. Water temp 39 degrees +/- a degree or so.
Nothing happening there so we joined the huge tuna fleet just upstream from the Ecorse launch. Nothing there so we moved 2 steel plants upriver. Gotta love using steel plants as landmarks.
Ran into Big Daddy, good to meet you, hope you did better than we did. Only saw 2 boats handlining, you guys were one of them. In all it was a great day, the boating conditions were perfect, now if the fishing had panned out..... Broke in the new sonar and used my jury-rigged electric start all with success.
Here's my son in front of one of the steel plants, looking upriver.
