i was wondering what the ramp conditions are at the st jean ramp,i heard that they only have one ramp in to use im hoping this isnt true because i would imagine the line to launch would be extremely long also is there any other ramps you guys are using to fish the upper end of the river i would appreciate any info
thank you

There are 3 docks in the water (6 places to launch).
I think it is a joke. Ever since Harbor Hill Marina took over the ramp in the late 80's they haven't done nothing.
For $6.00 a launch or $75. for a yearly it should be better than that.
I think everyone should call and complain:

Hotwired,
I'm on board with that! Those broken down peices of scrap wood they call "docks" are pathetic. Some even have loose cleats here and there, just incase you may need to secure your boat when getting the trailer.
They will be getting a rash of calls from me and everyone I can recruit. Something MUST be done.
Good luck out there...

Just got off the phone with Harbor Hill Marina.
They were in the process of fixing, replacing cleats and adding docks when last week's snow hit. He said there were 2 more docks in early last week and someone either pulled them down the tracks into the water with their boat or pushed them in while backing in.
I stressed to him that this is the only public launch from Crocker Rd. to Wyandotte and that Alter Rd. is unusable at this time.
Hopefully it will be better this weekend.

How has the ramp been on the weekends? I really don't want to end up parking outside the gate. I'm always hesitant to go there on a holiday or weekends but lately it seems that is the only opportunity. I might try this coming Friday or Sunday if conditions look good.

Gone Fishing,
I am usually one of the first ones there on Sat. & Sun. mornings and have not yet seen people parking on St.Jean yet.
I left the launch at 10:30am on Sat and 11:30am on Sun.
If the fishing picks up and the dock count does not improve I think there will be a line to get in and out.

Sure sounds like a good business opportunity. One thing for sure is the people in Wyandotte are first class.:D
John. I'd just run down there in the boat, especially with St. Jean the being the wonderful facility it is. It actually takes about the same amount of time too.

Paul, I can't control the Wellcraft down there. I tried it once and got very frustrated watching people catching fish around me. I do have a couple short pool cue rods that are set up with hand line style leaders and 1.5 lb sinkers that might work but I'd prefer to take the little aluminum for boat control.
Thats what I was referring to John. Hardly any traffic to contend with this time of year, and no traffic lights on the water. I take my little tub down there all the time from Crocker or Harley. I think you must be spoiled.......LOL.;) :D

You obviously haven't riden in the Smokercraft. It's not a very dry ride and with no windshield and freezing cold water........Yep, I'm spoiled!;)
