I was able to get out this afternoon and do some shore fishing above Berrien, after school. As I reached my destination I saw that one guy had a fish on down river and after three casts landed a nice full female, in which I put back, then preceded to get two more before I quit. All three were females, one was fairly tight, ones was spitting eggs, and one was spawned out. I caught three females and all of them were different. I did release all three fish, I should have kept the one spitting out eggs, but I just want to keep fishing that spot, for a couple more weeks, hopefully.
In all the years I have been steelhead fishing I have never had that happen. That is just real weird. Also the fish ranged from 5 to 10 lbs. Most of the fish I saw caught were fairly small.
I think the guys at the outing this weekend should clean up.

Good job! In the spring, I actually prefer fishing above Berrien as opposed to below it. I've had some killer days there with no one in sight.
No specific spots, though...at least none that I'll mention here! ;)

I would say at least 15 people stopped and asked if I was doing any good, and if any fish were there................
UH, Not a bite, and the run is over!!!!!!!!!!!!
That always gets them back in the car and leaving. Yes, there are some great beds above the dam. I think its like anything else, you just have to get out and try new spots.

Buck Towner here,
I have had decent luck on the retrieve of spawn sacks this spring. I toss them out and let them sit for awile and the on the retrieve I hold the rod tip up high and bring it back damn near the surface. Steelies have been slamming them hard. Just began this method this spring, have any of you tried this ever? Just courious.

I've used that method with a fly tipped with a waxworm for scams in some of the tribs. Works really well in faster, shallower sections.
