I took the plunge last August and planted about of 1/2 acre with Alfarack. Oats and rape were also planted at the same time as a cover crop and deer pretty much consumed all the oats and rape before heavy frost.
For the previous two years this plot had been planted to winter wheat and then plowed under. I have my fingers crossed that this sandy soil plot has been built up enough to get a good catch of this alflafa and clover mix.
I am afraid that the real problem is that we got no rain for the month of August and half of September, so the Alfarack was really late in sprouting. By the time that snow came the clover was still very small and had only two leafs. I can not tell for sure if any of the alflafa even sprouted. Do clover and alflafa look the same when they first sprout?
Did any of you experience a problem with no rain late last summer after planting a new crop?
The snow is just about all melted now, so I should know in a couple of weeks whether I will have plow up this plot and start over:(
