For all you fly tyers out there. When you start stocking your boxes up before trout season, what are the flies that you make sure that you MUST HAVE in your fly box. I am interested in seeing what different people like to stock in their boxes.
Some flies I like to carry are:
green bead head caddis pupa
elk hair caddis
Adams
Light Hendrickson
Dark Hendrickson
Olive Wooly Bugger
Light Cahill

For pre July Fishing I absolutely don't leave the house without the following:
Skunk
Roberts Drakes in light and darker body shades.
X-Caddis in tan and green
An un-named emerger I tie.
Hen wing Sulpher
Brown Bivisible
Sparkel Dun
Royal Wulff
Wooly Worm
BH Wooly bugger

Hmm,
John, I think a well stocked fly box is a subjective issue inasmuch as some fly's are best in the early season, mid, and late season respectivly. With the above said, my spin on it would be the following as a minimum.
BWO's, various sizes 14 thru 18
Caddis: pupa's and dry's 12 thru 16
Streamers: Spruce, BN-Dace, M-Finn, tied in small sizes #10
Bivisibles: Badger, 12 thru 16
Nymphs: Small stone's and mayfly, 14 thru 18
Terrestrials, small selection of ants, and beatles
Wet's: Sparsley tied, various colors 14 and 18
And lastly, a pair of fine scissors to modify the above fly's to suit special needs that might arise.

-Olives seem to hatch the most so I keep all forms and sizes. From nymphs to RS-2 emergers to duns to spinners.
-P.T. and G.R.H.E. nymphs, beaded and not.
-Royal Wulffs of all sizes.
-Soft Hackles, especially Partridge and Whatevers.
-Simulators to use as bobbers to drop a nymph off of and as a dry that floats well and is easy to see in white water.
-Copper Johns to drop off of the Simulator.
-Terrestrials up the wazoo. Flying ants, spiders (sometimes soft hackles duplicate them well) and HOPPERS! What's better than hopper season!
-Buggers.
-Sulphers and other assorted light colored flies.
-Griffith Gnats.

Good topic. I'm one of those guys who cary for or five fly boxes stuffed with severall hundred flies andI'm not mutch of a nymph fisherman, but if I could cary only one box all trout season, I would have these flies in it.:
1.) Adams-14-16
2.) BWO duns-18-20
3.) Light Cahill-14
4.) Borcher's Drake-14-16
5.) Black caddis-14
6.) Ionychia-10-12
7.) Brown Drake-8-10
8.) hex (drakes & spinners)-6-8
9.) black ants-14
10.) Pheasant tail or Hairs ear (can't make up my mind)-14-16
11.) Zoo Couger- 4 (3x long)
12.) more Adams flies
Yes, I know it would have to be a big fly-box, but I'm pretty sure I could catch fish all season long, under a ton of conditiotions with this small arsonall. My second choice would be a box of Adams from #8-20. I'm sure I'd still do okay.

I would have to say the above list's pretty well cover it, but I can't belive nobody mentioned a Royal Coachman (dry & wet)!
Over the years, this has been one of the steadiest flies I have every fished, right along with the Adams.
I would also have to agree that running a dropper in the early season can make all the difference in the world. It can turn a 2-3 fish day into double digits very quickly!

I try to keep things simple:
Dries: Adams, BWOs, Orange Stimulators
Nymphs: anything with a bead..copper johns, princes, etc
Wet: I an not much of a streamer guy (only because I am not that good at it) but when all else fails I go to Wolly Buggers (with and without a bead)

If I dont have my hare's ears or my adams, I get so uneasy that I start shaking and I get cold sweats. ;)
