Did any of you guys hear the radio interview of the guy from the humane society on why there shouldn't be a dove season? His logic was 1. There is very little meat on a dove.
2. They are a song bird. 3. We've protected them for 95 years we should continue. 4. They aren't a pest. 5. There are 40 some other species of birds to hunt in MI why hunt doves? 6. He quoted a 25 percent wounding rate. This was on WJR this morning about 6:15. I believe that it was on the Paul W. Smith show.

Now I personally don't see myself ever dove hunting but this argument just made me want to puke. They allowed 3 or 4 phone calls and only one of them was a pro-hunter. I must say that he did a great job in arguing for our side. The others were just fawning over this humane society guy.

I'm sure that this may come up in a conversation somewhere so give me some arguments against this guy.

Mike, It always amazes me what drivel people will believe.

1.) Little meat: There is more meat on a dove than there is on a bobwhite quail, and quail are the nation's #1 game bird. SO if it is about meat, then why do we hunt quail? Also, if size matters, then I want a swan season, cause there is a lot of meat on a swan.

2.)Song bird: The only reason it is classified as a song bird is because it has been done legislatively. They can just as easily be classified as gamebirds legislatively.

3.) So they haven't been hunted in 95 years; in my opinion then its about time we DID hunt them, as other states HAVE been hunting them for 95 years

4.) They aren't a pest: again, so what--neither are quail, pheasants, duck, ect and we hunt them.....move ARF (animal rights fanatics) drivel

5.) 25% wounding rate: Did anyone on the radio show think to question where this data came from? What study, and was if flawed on the side of the animal rights extremeists? Probably not, since most radio stations are liberal and don't give a rats *** about reporting facts anymore.

6.) 40 species to hunt? they obviously can't do math! ruffed grouse, quail, woodcock, pheasant, ducks, geese...that makes 6 (9 if you want to include crows, pigeons, and starlings)....definetly a far cry from 40!

I wrote my senator an Email today and sent in all the reasons we should hunt doves, as well as the points that I made here. I would urge all of you to do the same.

dosn't his association with the the humane society TELL you anything ? The the humane society is not on our side . It is all about the amount of money they can take in. They wack way to many pets a year . I myself do not support them
