Your FAVORITE top 3 ice lures

I fish the Sag Bay and the Sag River mostly so my top Three would be:
1. Bad dog Jigs
2. Sweedish Pimple
3. Jigging Rappala

My top 3 are as follows:

1)swedish pimple
2)cicada blade baits (great for walleyes in the Saginaw River basin
3)jigging rapala

I particularly like the Cicada for walleyes, it just seems to work wonders, try them with a bit of a minnow on there, and you'll be amazed how well they work (sometimes)

I have never used a Cicada for fishing. Believe it our not I do use one as an attractor. While fishing on the bay I always have a pole rigged up with one on. Every 15 min or so I will put a line out and drop a Cicada down and let it hit bottom. Then pull it up fast several times pumping it hard. I heard this from an old timer. It seems to work from me. Don't knock unless you have tried it???? ha Skeet

Sportsman, could you in detail tell me how you fish those Crippled Herring? Never seen anyone fish with those for walleye. Do you use minnow? half or whole and how deep of water have you used them in? Thanks so much for reply! Skeeter

For walleyes I like 1)the Jigging Rap #7 or #9 #2Do Jigger #3 Rattlin Snakie Spoon I have heard that big blade baits are deadly on Lake Erie off Ohio.

Saginaw river:
#1 Jigging Rapala (Blue and silver#5#7 are fav.)
#2 Rocker Minnow!!(Chart., Orange/Gold, black and gold)
#3 Whistler Jigs 3/4 oz
Everything with a stinger hook and tipped with a shiner.

TOTO I have used the cicada baits on many ponds and lakes and have found that they are a grade A Bass lure! Every time I put on a cidada I catch a bass.
Skeeter- the criple herring is a lot like a Sweedish pimple. they come with a plain single hook instead of a treble hook and they have a great action in the water. I haven't tried them in the river because I have never found one heavy enough for the current. I bet they are a killer lure on the bay.

Weezer, I agree with you on the Whistler jig. Bad dog has one only smaller. I hook(on bay) a minnow through the tail and I tell you they are deadly as heck. Last 2 years I ALWAYS HAD ONE ON MY LINE.

I have tried them! The really heavy ones worked but I usually stick to my "Go to" lures.

My 3 favorite ice lure are definitely
1) golden shiner
2) sucker minnow
3) any small blue gill or perch

all dangled nicely under a tip up and waiting for mr. esox to have some lunch

Yeah I hear ya weez, go with what works for ya. I only mention the cicadas as they produced 2 10 pounders one nite within about 10 minutes for me. Couldn't raise anything on anything else.

1. Orange floater steelhead spawn sac
- if the steelies are hitting orange floater bags, then they are hitting pretty good
2. Golden shiners
- #1 pike bait through the ice
3. Wigglers
- great for steelies on certain days and brings back memories of buckets full of perch

If I wanted to rig a dead rod for brown trout on the Sag Bay what type of a rig would I use. Guys are catching them out there now that the water has cleared.
