I have many of the older style Mitchell 300 and I use them all the time. If the quality is as good as the older reels they should be real good. I have looked at them but I am not in the market for a new reel right now.

I,bought a Mitchel 300x,last summer.I caught about 150 Northerns, with it.I,liked it,but did have some problems with Fireline, getting wrapped around the drag nut.Sometimes being sucked in,to where,I,would have to remove the nut to clear it.The drag was very smooth, and,I,liked the fast retrieve. The anti-reverse worked well also, and never failed, like some reels do when fishing jerk-baits.I,have had less problems with,my,Daiwa 2500 Regal X&Z,at about the same price and size.

I don't have any experience with the very newest models out this year but I have used them recently and some of the original models. They are well built and last a long time but they were not a good choice for big fish, atleast big fish that tend to strip line. A few good steelies is all it takes to burn one out. The drag system was pretty poor. For the majority of fish they were fine though. I did look at the newest model with 10 bearings and it was nice, but I was a bit dissapointed. Other reals with similiar bearing counts are considerably smoother......also a lot more expensive though.
