View Full Version : Spooky Tube!
The idea for this came up on another forum, but I decided to give it a shot. The end result is a bait that I am pretty excited to try out! Insert one Zara Spook into one 8" Tiger tube, add some split rings and treble hooks, and you end up with what I like to call the spooky tube! Still bouyant, balanced very well, and now you can walk the dog with a tube!

Kinky, yet strangely compelling...

interesting. I used a treble hook/tube combo last summer, with one trebble on the end of the tube like a stinger hook with bullet weight inside, and it actually worked great. caught over almost 20 bass in an hour on duck lake in highland.
I like that. Those Spooks are pretty useful. Last year I rigged one up with rubber Duck feet. Worked like a charm when the fuzzy little critters had just taken to the water.

I got to give it to you guys for innovation! "Little rubber duck feet", I love it!
Whered you get the rubber duck feet? I have a big feathertail/bucktail planned for that time of year, and little duck feet would be a great addition!
Heres what I have in black, going to make another one in yellow with a silver blade when the time comes. This one is just over 10":

I cut the feet out of EPDM roofing membrane, but an old inner tube would work just fine. You might want to glue two plys together with rubber cement if the rubber is too thin.

I like the tube idea...
My only question is:
How long does it take to rig? How long does it last? Does one fish destroy the tube?
ok, that was more than one question..
:D
Dude that is sweet Jaid! I love the look of that thing, dancing like a Hawaiian Hula girl in my imagination. I think the muskies will like the Spooky Tube too- I'll let you know if/when she scores!
I plan on giving it a shot on Webster Lake tomorrow. Not sure if it will be very productive in the cold temps, but at least ill get a good look at the action it has!
Well, didnt catch anything on it on Webster, but got a good look at it, and certainly gave it a chance! The action is pretty decent. It wont do a 'walk the dog' type action on the surface completely, if I went with smaller hooks I think it may. As is, its more of a subsurface glider type action. It tends to like to dart to a side, or dive down. It doesnt float back to the surface very fast at all, but it will return if given time. After about 2-3 seconds of sitting motionless, the front of the tube turns toward the surface and it slowly rises. If you work it at a normal speed, it comes in 1-2' below the surface. All in all it looks pretty good, im sure it will hook something this year (other than the submerged stumps at webster ;) ).
