I have fished steelhead many different ways but never with a float and jig. Are these jigs just regular jigheads or is there a specific type or brand special for steelhead. Always looking for an alternative for a slow day on the river.

Thanks, Mitch

Mitch, Jigs have become one of my staple items in the vest to catch steelhead. The most popular and most effective style for using bait like wigglers or wax worms is the "tube" style jig. If you ever fish at Tippy Dam, you'll see a wide variety of colors and sizes for sale in the local tackle shops in Wellston. If you don't get that far north, I have done just as well buying plain tube style crappie jigs and painting them up. One other style that works well for me is a marabou jig. I make my one with a beefer hook than any store bought model, but the Bass Pro Shops marabou crappie jigs actually have a decent hook and hold up well.

Good Luck...
