I got some minnows last weekend and as usual, my 3-old wanted some. I put two perch size in a juice glass with some water figuring she'd lose interest before they kicked. Well after a weekend of fishing - I forgot about the minnows...until I went back up north on Friday and found them sitting behind a couple things on the counter. They were as lively as could be - so much so I'm wondering how they managed not to jump out of the glass! I keep the place around 55 when nobody's up there so the pipes won't freeze, but two minnow making it a week in a juice glass with no areator or food - that's just amazing.

Fishfoote, I hope those were some of Eds minnows. I looked for you out on the ice on Sunday around noon. No sign of you? I even called for you on the radio. It was ugly out there, that wind..................enough said. Well how did you do? Not many people fising this weekend, I can't imagine why? I had company all weekend so I could not fish. We have to get our shanties off before Thursday, I am leaving for Florida and Ed leaves Sunday. Oh, and by the way those are some good minnies must be the water up here? Bolo

you must have bought them at one hell of a bait shop.

i have had guys keep minnow in their garages for up to three weeks and still be alive during the winter.

its not the best thing in the world when you own a bait shop to have minnows that won't die! i would like them to stay alive for i don't know 24 hrs or so but when you start talking weeks it cuts down on trips to the shop, ya know.
just kidding
i wish i could make them live that long in the summer.

We did Ok - in my opinion anyway, got 4 nice ones with a couple throw backs. The wind wasn't as bad as last weekend, at least we were able to keep a sheppell up for jigging without too much trouble. The snow was something else though! Tough visibility. Those were Ed's minnows, in fact the local guy I fished with still had his minnows from last weekend, but he treated his better than mine - areator and clean water. We did see Ed "flying" over to Churchhill Saturday afternoon - must have been doing 50 mph! I was on 8 all day and scanned a few guys on 7 that had some private contest going. Sounded like they picked up a few jigging. I don't know where they were though. You guys have a good time down south! I'm hanging on the west side for the next couple weeks - brought most of my gear back in the hopes of rounding out the season with some gill fishing over here.

Ed, Fishfoote shouldn't have any minnows left after fishing all day, Should he? That could have been two more 'eyes on the ice. In a perfect world maybe.........I hope he used 'em all up this weekend. Bolo

sounds like flathead counter minnows. they do best on real pine but also do ok on oak , birch or malpe counters. Ps they die in cold water. save them for summer. lol

Little know fact from the minnow wizzard
Most people dont know that minnows are air breathers also, if the water is cold they can live a long time. notice how they come to the top and stick their noses out of the water, the oxygen is running low so they just stick their noses out to get air.-
