Not sure this is the proper forum to post this, but I did fish Saginaw River north of the z-bridge Saturday morning. I got skunked. I had my Fish Trap out and for awhile I didn't set it up, just sat on the seats because it was warm out. But the wind started to pick up and so I wanted to warm up. I go to pull the canvas part over me and all these leaves come flying out. Then I noticed 3 holes the size of a quarter. Damn mice had eaten through it while in my garage.   .
The thing is my shanty is brand new. Only used it once before. So now I need to find a way to repair it. Anybody have any ideas how to patch canvas??? Or maybe a place in the Lansing area I can take it to?? Any help would be appreciated.

It may not look that nice but duct tape is what I have patched small holes with. Hasn't come off yet and has been on there for several years.

Jrock, I was fishing right by you!! Didn't have a radio with me so I didn't meet anyone from the site. I was sitting on a gray sled with a yellow and black columbia coat on. When you set up your shanty I figured something had built a nest!! I got skunked too.
My fish trap is over 10 yrs old. Over the years, it has been a snack for the mice a time or two. I just buy some of that iron-on patch material similar to the kind that my mom used to put on the knee of my blue jeans. Works pretty good. It comes is many colors. I just match it as close as possible.

krt, I have had problems with mice also. At the end of the season I remove my trap cover from the frame and store it in a mouse proof storage container. P.S ,I have tried the mouthball trick. Guess what? They built a nest right on top of them. Got a cat?
They make iron on patches in various colors that work great on canvas. Any fabric store has them.

Thanks so far for all the suggestions. Too funny SteelFisher that we were right near each other. :) I had walkie talkies, but was fishing with my brother til he left at 9:30 so I didn't put it on. Did you see the one guy that caught a keeper, he was by the red buoy. That was the only fish I saw caught. I would say it went between 5 and 6 lbs.

Yeah, I saw him and wished it was me. It was funny, I thought that may be you with the hooded sweatshirt from your avitar. Oh well, maybe next time.
HemlockNailer, have you ever tried fabric softener sheets? I've heard it's a good trick in campers. Tried it this year in the pop-up. I'll find out in a couple months.

If it really bothers you, I would just wait until next season and buy another fishtrap. Then, put the old one with the holes in the new box and take it back to wherever you buy it from. Kinda B.S, but that's what I'm gonna do with my shappell next winter.

You know TAT2sob, The people selling those shantys are trying too make a living too!!!. That does not sound like a good idea too me:rolleyes:
I would agree with exox on the iron on patch. Have used them on my fishtrap and work great.

always nice to have a source of fresh air...
but glue traps work great for the off season, the type with the bird seed on top.
