THURSDAY
Planned to go out at daybreak on Thursday morning. Had trouble right off the bat!! I moved to Holly last year so decided to try some new lakes. The only shop that sells (or used to sell) minnows has closed up for good :( So I scraped my original plan for Heron lake in the Holly State Rec area. Thought I would try Wildwood or Bass lake in the same park (thought I should stick to panfish lakes armed with only waxies) but the Park service failed to plow the access roads!! Whats up with that?? I paid for my Michigan State Park sticker and I think it is OK to expect reasonable access to the lakes within these parks...isn't it??

After that mess I decided to move to 7 Lakes State Park. Even worse!! The park service failed to plow ANY access to Big Seven Lake or Dickinson Lake!! Again I ask what am I paying the $25 for?? I attempted to 4wd the park rd back to Big Seven Lake but only got about 1 mile back before I lost the road in the drifts and had to turn around.

Disappointed I decided to go to Crotched Lk off of Grange Hall Rd. Didn't do squat!! Couldn't even locate fish with the Vexilar! Then decided to call it a day.

FRIDAY
Drove to Walled/Union Lk area to hit some old hot spots. My Honey Hole came through with 7 slab sided perch in 2.5 hours. Low temps and high wind made for trying times. Line wanted to freeze to anything it touched and I had to constantly skim the holes to keep them open. Minnow bucket froze damn near solid in 2 hours and waxies were like nails...Everything froze!

Sorry for the long report and good luck!

P.S. What do you guys think about the parks keeping access to their lakes open?? Am I outta line er what?? Just curious.

DT,
I agree totaly you pay the 25$ and that should get you around the park year round another problem this time at a metro park is if you enture to kent lake the road that goes back to the good fishing holes are closed do to bridge construction if you follow the detour signs that is if you can find them it takes you in about a 5 to 7 mile circle go figure!!!!!
Good luck

Just wait until this summer when you find a lot of the state park lakes in Oakland county
don't open until 7:00 a.m. Including those lakes at Holly. So much for catching the good bass action at first light.
