I was fishing with a buddy last weekend - contemplating shanty designs between fish (I wish). He describe a low budget/light weight shanty design I'd have never thought of - maybe guys already have them?

Build a light frame over a normal wood floor system. Install (construction adhesive?) styrofoam sheets between framing and get the whole thing shrink wrappped! He said he talked to the local marina and they would do a 10 x 10 for around $25. I know most of the weight of my shanty is the luan sheeting on the walls and roof - the thing has to weigh 300#. Even if you ran some light wood strips on the corners to secure the shrink wrap, you'd be saving a bunch of weight off most any other material.

Anyone do or seen this done???

I had thought of using the 4x8 sheets of stryofome that are available at the home depot. Light weight is good for transporting and seting up, but i decided that if the shanty was so light, any kind of wind would blow it around and be a hassle. maybe there is a way to have a super light weight shanty with a type of anchor system. Iused a frabill venture a few times this year and had good sucess with it, it was light enought to pull and setup, but still hada a little weight to keep it planted.

I've got a trap and sheppell - much over 15 mph and they become kites. I think if you with with the shrink wrap design over a framed floor with 1/2" osb sheeting, and didn't go nuts on the height it would probably work out. With a little extra effort, you could probably round the corners to reduce drag too.

drill 3/8 or 1/2 hole on bottom of shanty use 3/8 6'' lag bolt
to anchor it on the ice you could drive it in with a cordless drill.

Sounds like a good idea, but I don't know if they would handle the abuse of moving around alot. You know fishfoote, like chasing 'eyes on Hubbard. I know my Uncle made one out of 2" foam and it was nice, heat it with a match type of shanty. If you made a heavy base so you could drag it, might just work.............Get going, I want to see a prodotype this weekend. Good Luck

I build my copes out of pickup toppers. The one I am taking to saginaw this weekend has aluminum front and rear panels with canvas sides. The floor is plywood and aluminum and folds in the middle. It measures 6'Hx5'Wx8'L folds up and fits in my short box Dodge:cool:

The only prototype you're going to see from me this weekend is a jumbo perch on the ice - I haven't got one yet this year! I checked the date on my wall hanger from several years ago - March 6, 1996 - does that mean I should have been there yesterday??!?!?!?!:(
