What are some of your favorite lakes to fish ? You don't have to give me your best just some good ones :)

I just started ice fishing Lake St. Clair last year around Cotton Rd area and enjoyed fishing the bigger water. Before that I had mostly been fishing small lakes/ponds up in the Bald Mountain Recreation Area. Not much success yet at either location. I hope to do better this year. The fish (mostly perch) were a lot larger in St. Clair than where I had been fishing.

The Saginaw river! It might not be the most scenic place to fish but it sure does prduce some hot walleye action!
I really don't have any other places that I ice fish on a regular basis. Anybody that wants to get onto some great eye action let me know!!! Walleyes are my life for the month of January!

portage lake in onekama. if you know the right places and don't mind walking you can catch pike all day long along with some steelhead, brown trout, huge perch(on tip ups!) and walleye. over the past 3 years i have taken a 17# pike or bigger every year. (my biggest is a 22# last year.)

Being originally from Saginaw, up until 5 years ago, I still have a infinity for the Saginaw river system, so WEEZER I have to agree with you, if you know where you are going this system is killer. Up here in the great North west, I like some of the smaller lakes for gills, perch, walleyes, and I like to fish Betsie Lake (Bay) for pike and steelies through the ice. :)

Just getting back into ice fishing after a long time off. We were hitting Lake St. Clair last year off Metrobeach. The numbers were there for the perch, just not the size. I still prefer inland lakes over the big water.

Lake La Su An Wildlife Area - just south of the Michigan line - Good for bluegills and Indian Lake for Crappies.

I fish Lake St. Clair (Anchor Bay) weekly when there is ice. For first ice, I usually get a mixture of crappie, perch, and gills in the local canals. When there is ice on the lake I fish the cotton road area and concentrate on perch. <----<<<

Gull Lake by the Bible Conference. When it's hot it's hard to beat for big gills.

i would have to say cobb lake down by yankee springs. lots of 10 inch gill's.

For me it is Haymarsh SGA in Mecosta County. It is close to my house and I do all right there on 'gills and crappie. Lots of pike in there also, but no size limit and most caught are less than 20". Did watch a guy pull out a 36" last winter. Maybe this year I will catch one that big. Chad.

I like to fish Mullett Lake. It is 1 of the largest inland lakes in mich. there is a good varity of fish, But I mainly key in on those Eye's

Well, I like to fish Lake St. Clair, Cotton Rd. area. I like to fish the Saginaw River, near the Zilwaulkee bridge. But, I love to fish Lake Simcoe (north-east of Toronto). I make 3-4 trips each winter. Perch and walleye, even pike, I'll fish for either. Keep your coffee warm, and good luck.

One of my all time favorite places has to be the Thames River in Canada. When I was doing alot of ice fishing, and when I lived on the east side of the state, I would go just about every weekend when the ice was safe.
We fished for walleyes and man did we catch them.

Amen to Gull Lake, but you are wasting your'e time if you don't have a fish finder.
Portage Lake, Hogset Lake, Gourdneck Lake, Lake of the Woods, and Little Fish are also some good lakes in this area. The channels on Gun Lake have been fishable for a week or so. Anybody heard of anything else?

A question for Chad In Hershey. I will be staying at my sisters cabin on Prety Lake, Mecosta over New Years. I have never had any luck icefishing in this area. What can you tell me about the Haymarsh area. Where should i try, and how do you access the lake in the winter?

Muck, to get to Haymarsh from Pretty Lake, head to the public launch at Chipewwa Lake, but keep going. You will take a left (west) at the stop sign. Go about 4-5 miles and look for the 'Haymarsh' sign. Take another left. Most of the road is plowed, but the last couple hundred yards is not. But enough people go down there to keep it packed down (check first if in a car).Look to your left and you should see where the people are fishing. If you go through a big steel gate you went too far. I was out there Friday afternoon and caught about 30-40 'gills in a few hours. A few were keepers, but not many...yet. Set a tip-up and had two flags but no pike. There is no size limit on pike there so expect smaller ones. I have been getting some 'gills and a few bass on Chippewa, and have seen some nice walleyes come from there. If you need any more info write me at moose@net-port.com Chad.
