Does anyone know if such a animal exist anymore?? I'm planning a fishing trip to Sylvania Wilderness Area and there special fishing regulations calls for 'no scented baits or lures'. Although it wouldn't be the end of the world if I didn't take any, I would like have them seeing that it known of it great bass population (strict catch/release policy).
Anyone?

I am sure there are still some unscented plastics out there, but I havent got a clue as to where to find some Bass sized ones. Most of the waters in the Sylvania Area are gin clear, and if you are fishing mid day, the Smallies can be 20+' deep. Last time I was there, we did well jigging Little George tailspinners and small bucktail jigs.

Thanks for the info, ESOX! We're first timers and were kinda going in blind so any advice is appreciated. How's the pike fishing there? Do you remember which lakes were the most promising (for any fish)?

Another option for unscented plastics MAY be any of the upcoming sportfishing shows. They usually have booths for vendors who will have bins of cheap plastic baits

Various lakes in the area have different mixes of fish. Some of the lakes are excellent Pike lakes. Some darn good Muskie lakes around there too. Lake Trout can be had in some of the lakes. You can obtain a list of the species found in the various lakes from the local National Forest office. I think I have the info at home, if no one beats me to it, I'll try to dig it up. Where the heck is Shametamer when we need him???? He probably has fished every inch of water there, and never forgets a single detail. Dont just limit yourself to the lakes in the Wilderness, some nearby ones are killer.
Good idea on the bargain bins for unscented plastics.

If you are willing to mail order your baits, I believe the soft plastics sold by Janns Netcraft are unscented and are VERY reasonably priced. If you go to the website, http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/ , you can request a free catalog. If interested you can even get soft plastic molds and materals to make your own at home.
Otherwise, I can only suggest trying some of the Bass Pro Shops or Cabelas cheaper house brands. I know the package of 250 or so soft plastic baits that come in the big travel mug from Cabelas for $9 are unscented/unsalted.

ALMOST ALL PLASTIC BAITS ARE RUBBED WITH ANISE OIL. I WOULD GO TO BASS PRO SHOPS.

free catalog or online ordering...they do the marketing for Luck E Strike lure company and have a great line of worms....unscented or scented. I really like the 4 inch Original Ring Worm in Grasshopper color. Lotta bass on that one fished with a 1/16 Snagless Slider Hook. Good fishing, Mac

Yep, first time there last year, now, is my favorite plce to go. Didn't really feel like portaging to ther lakes, so, we stayed in loon, deer island, and clark lake. Boy did we kill the HUGE smallies, without question the best smallie fishing in the world. We were drifting the points, and drop offs with 1/32 once jigs called mini mites, they ate them up!!! Boy, do they fight hard, harder then any fish in fresh water up there !!!! Loon lake i would rate as outstanding, deer island, unbelievibly phoenominal, EVERY casr, to some stucture, a 5 pound smallie would nail that jig, and every one took 10-15 minutes to land!!! Lost about half of the ones we caught, we caught about 50 each in an other, out of over 100, in just about 2 hours!!! We will try other lakes, heard it's phenominal panifshing in crooked, and great eye fishing in whitefish, even though the 2 mile portage, just can't wait to go there again!!! I'm not even mentioning the prestinest, and buety of the area!!! If you have not been there, you have to go!!! But, the weather was terrible, wouldn't of mind the hail, high winds, heavy rian, and lightning if our truck wasn't 5 miles away!!! Hopfully, we miss the bad weather next year
