I am hearing there is ice on the saginaw river. Is this true? When do you guys think it will be alright to venture on. Thanks..
I don't live down there anymore, but by past experience, I would say you better a while. This river has the tendency to pick up current and erode ice very rapidly, combine that with water that is over 20' deep, and you wouldn't stand much of a chance if you went through.

The ice is forming in the ZIlwaukee area, Just North of the Z Bridge. It usually freezes over later than the Downtown Saginaw area so I imagine there is ice all the way across right now down there.
IF the weather stays this cold I will begin looking for fishable ice next SAturday. Typically I wait 5 days past the point when the river freezes all the way across. Then I only go out in a few of my well known locations that always freezes in solid.
DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING OUT THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!lIKE I SAID,"IF" THE WEATHER STAYS THIS COLD UP TO NEXT SATURDAY THEN IT MIGHT BE SAFE"
Take Toto's advice to heart also! You really have to respect the river or she'll kick your ass! Trust me I have fallen through many times(Even when the ice was 12 inches thick in spots)

I seen a boat going down the river Saturday Morning by the Z bridge. The ice was all brokn up. I would wait a while. Hopefully we will not get to much snow on the ice.

I seen guys going onto the river near wickes park. They are not going very far from shore. With all the snow we got this week I think I will wait another week before I venture out on the river. DCG
