Good idea Rat City Hooker. The only day I will be able to fish the rest of the season is the 15TH. Hopefully there will still be some good ice.:)

Just got off the river..... Still have around 8 inches. but it's starting to look honeycombed. I'm going to give it a go tommorow but by monday I expect the ice will be crap....unless it gets colder.
If the current weather patterns stick around after this snow you can kiss it goodbye.
This is by far the longest I've seen ice on the nasty....normally it's gone around Valentine day.

was out fishing tonight tuesday south of the second set of silo's across from saginaw rock, had at least 10 or 11 inches of ice but behind me toward the silo's there must be a warm water outlet , the ice was turning real black so if your in the area be careful:(

The ice on the east side of the river, north of the log cabin is dangerous. I fell through up to my waist monday night. I was using a spud to test the ice. The ice ranges from 5 inches to less than 1 inch; in just a short distance. There are several bad spots with the recent snow on the ice. It will be impossible to see...Be careful.

The log cabin is 2 miles north of the Z-bridge. It is near where m13 crosses the Cheyboygan Creek, maybe that is what causes the bad ice.
I fished Melbourne last night. 8" of ice, also the augered holes from the day before were not frozen, but they were covered with snow. Be careful out there I know of at least 4 people that fell in yesterdays holes.
PS Thanks for all the tips Rat City! Finally caught a 5lb fish last night!:D It was, by the way, hooked by your stinger.;)

Watch out for old holds burried under tuesday night's snow! I used my spud to get out the my spot, then went to drill a few more holes. 3 steps from my shanty I stepped in a big one, about 24'' by 10'' big! Got wet up to my knee, not fun.
Ice seemed to be 8 to 10, we were 1/4mile north of the bridge. It is slushy though, and small snow drifts. Stay in the tracks of those who came before you and you should be alright.

Well, dont follow my tracks out there from last night. They will take you to 2 holes that some how got uncovered last night. Be careful there guys high of 39 on Friday and high of 39 on Saturday with RAIN/SNOW mix, I dont think we will be on the ice for much longer. But keep your fingers crossed, you know those weather men arent always right.

Man you guy's panic way too fast. We've had below zero temps for days. it'll take 2 days of all day and all night temps in the high 30's to melt 10" of ice. Still I'd be careful around bridges(salt) and creeks and discharges. If it gets to thin where your at go up river where the water is shallower and the ice is thicker. Wicks park had 12 " of ice thurs afternoon. Good fishin!

Shooter are you still fishing the same area and what is the thickness of the ice there. I might come up this weekend if you still got plenty of ice.
