I took my son up north this past weekend to check out the river and walk the woods. We walked out on Van Ettan Lake Friday and saw some fish being caught. I ran to the bait shop and bought some wigglers. I wasn't able to get a second line in the water for the first hour and a half. The fish were Very small- the largest perch we caught was 7 inches. We probably brought 50 or so fish through the ice- perch, bluegill, and sunfish. For a seven year old, it was great. We kept his fourteen biggest fish and cleaned them up. To give you a hint on the size of the fish- 28 fillets was enough to feed 1 seven year old. I can't complain- we had a great time.
By the way, the Ausable is LOW!! I saw islands in the river that I've never seen before.
