I am planning a trip to my previous hometown of Alpena this coming weekend. Can anyone give me a fishing report on how they are doing through the ice? Let me know. Thanks.

Jim

I was just up to Hubbard last weekend - pretty slow. A few guys apparently got one or two, but nobody was kill'em. I'm previously from Ossineke. I head up at least a couple times a month. Good luck.

Hey thanks Fishfoote. I think I might try the boat harbor or the river this weekend. I usually do pretty good out there, besides I don't know where in the heck to go on Hubbard, its too big. Thanks though.

Fishnut, if you go to Hubbard look up Ed at East Bay Bait shop. He is always more than willing to help out on where to go and how to catch. Very friendly guy, and know the lake. Honest info also. In fact he is a memeber on this site.

Hey Ed!
I'll be up this weekend, can you put me on some fish too? My friendly suggestion on marking your shanties may have been a little underhanded - figured that would be the easiest way for me to find the fish:D Just kidding. I didn't want to do too much moving last weekend - but this weekend I'll probably be out with some of the local anglers. After last Sunday, we've given up on trying to use portables in the wind - got a slightly bent frame on the Sheppell now. We're going to hook a couple hard shacks behind the truck and keep busting holes until we know we're on the fish. This is the "Walleye or Bust" weekend for me!

FF,

You didnt really mention what area of Alpena your from or looking to fish but if's a walleye or bust weekend then your best bet is going to be on Grand Lake (North of Alpena). Make sure to stop at Buck's as Scottfree suggested. Budd & Lorie are the greatest!

Good Luck, wish I was going to be there this weekend but cant, please post a report when your back!

I will Burksee. I'm an Alpena native and lived up there for 20 years. I know quite a few good spots but I haven't been up there in quite some time. Always use to stop at Bucks on the way up to Long Lk to get bait. Thanks for the tips and I'll let you know how I do.

Burksee - I used to live in Ossineke and then Spruce. Grand Lake could be the call to make, but I'm too hard headed to give up on Hubbard Lake now, plus that's were my cottage is and it's the path of least resistance for me. Looks like the weather is going to be doing it's Michigan thing this weekend (up/down & snow) which should help the bite. I'm also hooking up with some buddies up there for a search and destroy mission on the fish.

Good Luck to both of you! :) Hope you all have a great time this weekend. I'll be looking forward to your reports when you get back!

I'd like to be going up there this weekend but am taking the family up to Houghton Lake for a snowmobiling trip with friends. Last time for this year (?)

No other fishermen in the group so I dont think I'll be getting any in this weekend. :(
