Thats it folks...I am DONE, no more will I even TRY to go out and Icefish with the Ice as thick as it is until I have a Power Auger, and since no one seems to have any in stock, my year might be finished early.

Went out this mornign with 10 year old daughter, drilled ONE hole with my Mora,(blades ARE sharp) took so much outta me that I sat there feeling like I was gonna black out.

I either have to get my self into shape or stop trying to be superman.. Luckily Daughter understood and really didn't mind, I took her to Kensington and took a walk, saw 3 deer so she is happy..

My heart felt like it was on fire for 2 hours, NOT a good feeling..

Be carefull there trialfndr. No fish is worth a heart attack!!!
Are you looking for brand new power auger or any? If you don't mind good used ones I can keep a eye open for you up here. Plus we still have augers in stock in the stores up north. If you really need one I could get the prices and types they have and maybe meet you half way or something. Hate too see you quit so early:(

let me know If I can help.

I feel for you TrailFndr. I fished the bay last weekend with a friend who fishes it regularly. I assumed he had a power auger. He didn't! Boy was I sore at the end of the day.

It sounds like your heart is sending you a warning. I would set up an appointment with a cardiologist this week.

Heart is fine....thanks ofr the concern guys....Had it tested last month...I am simply outta shape and getting that winded in all those warm clothes didn't help. I think the biggest problem was probably the shoulder that I had repaired last year.

Chad, I appreciate that offer...I would be interested in a good used auger, but if the price is right a new one would work as well for me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

By March there are many old holes. Take a spud and open them up. Look at the post about the cordless drills. Three deer!!

If nothing else buy a 6" lazer , you can still bring big walleye through ,and it won't kill ya drillin. Mora ice drills have never been good. lazer is the way.

I would suggest re-using old holes or using a two-man approach (if you're fishing with a buddy). It's a lot easier with two people turning on the handle and the two hands on top. Cuts like butter.

Trailfinder:

I have an 8" MORA auger that I have been using since I started ice fishing several years ago. Even when the blades were brand new sometimes it was still tiring if I had to move around a lot and drill a lot of holes.

It worked ok though for me and I didn't feel like buying another one. I bought some new blades for it this year and a small sharpening tool to try and keep the blades sharp. The tool didn't seem to work so well and I was having difficulty drilling holes this year.

I tried to sharpen the blades myself using a honing stone and a method someone from the site shared with me. I sharpened for quite a while and went today to try it out. Still the auger wasn't cutting very well.

I called to many stores today looking for a LAZER auger. Finally found a 6" one and bought that. Went out today and man, what a difference. I drilled through about 20-24" of ice in probably 10-20 seconds with ease. I probably drilled 10-20 holes today and it was not bad for me. My arms were still weak from Friday when I used my MORA auger to drill one hole in a half hour. If you don't want to spend the money for a power auger but want something better than the MORA, go for the LAZER. If you can find it around you, it might be on sale. Unfortunately I missed all the sales around here and was lucky to even find one so I had to pay full price. You won't be disappointed with the LAZER though.

I too, have a mora auger and used it for several years. I tried sharpening the blades and that didn't work. So, I bought new blades for it and the mora seemed to "walk" the ice. I spoke with the guy at the fishing tackle grab bag and he told me even if you lightly hit the blades on the ice with the mora it knocks the blades out of alignment.
So I ended up buying an 8" lazer, something like $70.-$74, and do not regret getting it at all. Drills ice like butter, but the ice on the bay WHEW!!! They had plenty of sizes available there (grab bag) about a month ago though.

Here's something worth looking into:

Went out and did my last icefishing of the season this weekend - with no luck. I'm calling it quits for the year. If anyones interested, I have a Strikemaster Power Auger and a Fishin Buddy II fish finder. The finder has bottom an side scan. Comes with manual. $125.00 for the power auger, $80.00 for the finder.
