wow I dont know where to start. but here goes . sat I went to higgens first time ever. we fished for perch all we got were a few dinks.then we moved into the middle of the smelt fisherman near the dnr ramp on the north end. I drilled 1 hole and set my shanty over it started to scoop the slush out and to my amazement there were thousands of smelt just below the ice . i slaughtered them. I will definetly be going back soon. now for sun. morning. I went to bay city state park went out to first crack fished 1 hour and nothing so I crossed the crack and set up again then the wind started blowing. I got two hogs within one hour and left because the wind. so I think I had a good weekend. now it is time to watch the race maybe the 24 car can get a win. :D

everyone around me had fish this morning.
Did you go out on Higgins at the RAM center? I'm going tomorrow and tuesday and need to get some smelt. I usually bring spikes to fish with, but someone told me small minnows were working on the smelt. Any tips?
Did you here about the fishing at the DNR West launch?

I dont know the area. but I know that we went past the north state park then turned left on 27 and went a couple miles to the south. that is where the dnr launch was. what worked for me was a wax worm then mash it a bit on the hook. then I tried smelt eyes and that worked the best.also if you fish in a shanty and watch them bite you might do better than people that are outside.

All you need for bait is wax worms. Smelt will hit minnows but wax worms are faster to use and you catch more. Thats what I use anyways. Good luck. The hot spot is on the north west side at DNR ramp of old 27.
Thanks for the info. Wax worms it is.
Good luck chasing Walleye on the Bay. I grew up in Kawkawlin and chased them for 10 years. My father still chases them almost every day. He has been catching a few off Parrish Rd.
