It was definitely a great time guys. I really enjoyed meeting everybody on the ice, it is nice to be able to put a face with the name now. I look forward to doing it again.
I would like to thank Steinfishski for the company for the 2 days, I really enjoyed fishing with you the last two days. We will try to have to get over there again sometime.
Whale I had a couple friends and my uncle come over on saturday and we put 20 walleye on the ice and 16 of them were caught on that magic bait. They were really crushing it in the middle of the river during the mid-day.
Congradulations on your walleye Steely-Head and I'm glad that Whale was able to find your missing rod for you. I had thought a fished grabbed it and pulled it down the hole on you.:D :D :D
Slammer and Riverboy
I hope to be back over there next Sunday so keep me in touch on the fishing. I will bring along a few of those secret weapons if I can find them for you guys.
Thanks for a Great Time Guys

I found a few of TK's secret lures myself. He sure knows how to fish. Good job man! As for the outing, it was a GREAT time. I got my first ice walleye on a #5 Rainbow Trout Jiggy Rap tipped with a minner, the fish was just shy of 3.25 lbs when I weighed it at home, and it was 22 inches long. Not a beast, but I was happy about it. Tkpolasek put us all to shame, catching his limit of nice fish (Riverboy, post the pic with his fish and the pop can). It was nice seeing old faces and meeting new ones. Chalk up another A+ MS.com outing. Where's my rod??:D

WOW, what a time. 2 days on the ice and tried my hand jigging up some toothy critters. I fished nearly 22 hours before landing a single sub legal eye. Tried to get a picture but it slipped down the hole (accidentally) before a picture could be taken.lol It was not due to lack of trying or wrong baits or wrong spot. Many nice eyes were iced Friday and Saturday in our group from sub-legal to 27", a lean mean male caught by Troy who left early with his limit on Saturday. There was a whole new "secret lure" on Sunday and only 1 between us.
Thanks to Tim for the ride, gear, fish, and company the last couple days. Not to mention the 100 plus 10" holes to hop around all day.:D Great fun on the ice and perfect weather to boot.
Don and Art thanks for the burgers and dogs for lunch on Sat we enjoyed them greatly.
Art where's your rod?
Great meeting everybody on Friday and Saturday. I bet I talked with 20-30 guys on the ice the last few days. Plans were made for more open water endeavors, and new friends in fishing were made putting faces to names. Let's do it again soon. Soft water please...

First I must say, everytime I've hooked up with guy's from the site we have a blast. Steinfishski Thanks for the eats; and to tkpolasek thanks for the schoolin! You, Tony, and Troy showed me the way. I did'nt catch anymore than the two I had sat morn on the hot lure I left the ice to buy at gander, but I hammered them sunday morn on that same lure. When my son gets home from work I hope to post the pitchers I took with my wife's digetal camera. I'm totally lost when it comes to this tech. stuff. I got one that was 31" and weighted 11.2 pounds! Hope to get together soon and good fishin! P.S. in case I can't figure out how to get the pics up, backlash saw the fish and we measured it at his house.

Trophy tracker; That's the lure I came to the counter with when I saw you, man Tim, Troy, And Tony were just schoolin us sat afternoon! Those guy's taught me a thing or two about being a lazy fisherman. A little hard work and drilling tons of holes made a huge differance in our success. Just so you know Tim I used the same 200 holes you drilled fri and sat.:D :D :D . Good fishin! Oh I forgot the lure was called a zounder (guide series)?
Hey Art...
Did you find your rod yet? :D

Had a great time this weekend meeting people from this website. I fished with RatCityHooker for most of the weekend.
I have been to the sagnasty about 12 times this year and HAVEN'T GOT ONE YET!~ I must say, I was sitting 50 yards up river from tkpolesek and the boys, and watching them was like watching a clinic on how to catch em'. Wish I had one of those baits, i tried every color, shape, and style known to man. I tried to take clues from them when I could, but to no avail. I marked plenty of fish but just couldn't hook up. I took a friend from work up on friday night and here is what he caught (while he was sitting no more than 4 feet from me -- the fishless walleye guy).

See you guys on the river next weekend! To locate me on the river, just follow the BIG SKUNK SMELL coming from my shanty.
Young Steve
03-02-2003, 10:47 PM
Hey ScottyHoover,
I thought that smell was coming from my shanty on Saturday!! I've been to the river a couple times now and still have nothing to show for it. The first time nothing happened, Saturday we had one bump! Maybe we're getting closer to cathing one.
We had our lines in the water at 6:15am and left at 11am. Did the bite come later in the day or did we just miss the fish?
All you other guys, Great job on the fish!! At least I know what they look like!
Any clues? Middle of the river? East side? West side?? What was the secret bait??
Two weeks left, I'll be back!! Any tip's would be great!

I know how ya feel, I stayed late on friday and fished 5:30am-7pm saturday. I had a handful of those 'maybe bumps' both days. Friday I marked a lot more fish after dark and my friend got one well after dark. of course, more fish were iced during the usual times....and those certain people that seem to make the right color choice at the right moment and hole-hoppin' a lot seem to get more fish all day long....I marked a lot of fish coming to my lures but no takers? I have to get one, next weekends weather might be good....see you guys out there.

Trophy tracker, we fished those baits without minnows. Steinfishski, I took my six pack cooler down with me but the weather turned brutal. When I got there at 6:45 the temp on my truck mirror was a balmy 32 with a lite west wind. By 9:00 the wind switched to the north and the temp droped to 16. When I was hole jumpin you had to take a scoop because the holes would fill with blowing snow. It was too cold to even try to have a beer. We'll have a hard time trying to beat the great weather we had fri and sat. The plan was to mount that trophy, but when I got home and thawed her out the big fin on top was deformed. It was like it had been melted and folded in half:( :( :( . I'm bummed out about it because a guy on the ice next to me talked me into geting her mounted and even gave me a card for the guy who was mounting his 10lber. I'll be back down to fish fri, sat, and sunday. Good fishin!

Hey BigShooter ! Just a word here for your "deformed" finned fish. DZTaxidermy on this site very well may be able to repair that fin and keep your fish looking fantastic. Check it out with him and give him the details. He does an outstanding job for a very reasonable price, quick turn too. Highly recommended !!!

Well, it was great to meet a few of our fellow M-S.com'ers on Friday eve. Rico and I had a few bumps but no fish. It was a nice night until the wife called and needed me home right at prime time. The boy took a spill and bumped his head but he's doing fine. Saw three fish landed around us as we broke down the shanty.
Tried on Saturday morning as well but no luck, just a few more bumps. Did see a few fish caught and noticed the gang doing well down river from us. All and all had a nice time (for my first time to the river) and will try my luck again Tuesday evening.
Can anyone help me out with a PM regarding the secret lure. Would be nice to have one with me on Tuesday evening.
Finally got some time to sit down and write a bit....
Had a great day up there Friday fishing on the "Shagnasty". Met up with Tim #1 (Steinfishski) and Tim #2 (tkpolasek) at the bait shop Friday morning. We fished from about 6:30am until about 7:00pm. For me personally... was somewhat of a slow day missing my first 2 "hits". Finally... towards the end of the day... I did hook up with 2 sub-legal "eyes"... one going 14.5"... the other 14.75" Next time... I am going to stomp on them to give them that extra 1/2 inch. :D As is usual at most MS outings... we ate like kings. BBQ ribs... burgers... venison sausage & cheese. Tim #1 was even nice enough to let me finish off the blackberry brandy... hmmm... maybe because he was doing such a good job on the other liquid refreshments! ;)
Tim #2 showed us how it is done out there... very well done Tim... and a BIG thanks goes out to him for making sure I took home some fish for a yummy walleye dinner. (Tim... my girlfriend thanks you too).
It was nice meeting some of the new faces... and getting reaquainted with the old. And to think this outing was started as a MINI outing? Thanks for starting it Art. You are still a good kid... regardless what anybody else says. :D Hey Art... I still want to know if you have located that fishing pole of yours yet? (I had nothing to do with it!! :D )
Very nice fish Big Shooter... and to everyone else that posted pictures of fish... Good Job guys!!
Guys (and Gals)... these MS outings are a blast... I highly recommend them!!!
And now... in closing... not that I don't enjoy my time out on the ice. Let's start making a deal with the weather gods for some warmer weather and some soft water. Bring on the TROLLING SEASON!!! :D

Anyone want to disclose the color and size of the "Secret Bait"?
I'm going Wednesday or Friday night and Saturday morning.
How about a PM?
I'm sure if someone does tell me this info, there'll be a NEW "Secret Bait" by the time I get there!:D :D

I have been getting a few PM's asking me about the secret bait and a lot of other guys asking on the thread also. I don't know if I would really consider it a secret bait though guys.
I was using a gold Cicada with chart. tape on it in the 3/8 oz size. When we fished sat. we caught 20 legal fish and 16 of them came on all different types of blade baits. I have had pertty good luck with these when fish are either really aggressive, which they were not on friday or saturday, or when they are in a very neutral mood like they were this weekend. I marked a lot of fish through out the day and Trophy Tracker confirmed that they were walleye because he was seeing them on his camera. Blade baits will a lot of times cause what I call a reaction strike from fish, and thats exactly what they were doing this weekend, when I would start to mark them on my flasher they would either strike immediately or just keep on going. I really like to use these baits when I am jumping around from hole to hole because you don't even have to put bait on them. I just use a real quick snap about 6-12" up and then let it settle back to the bottom. A lot of times when you go to snap it again the fish will have it and you will just feel the weight .
If you are having trouble finding them I know that Cabelas and Bass Pro both have them in there catalogs.
Good Luck and Good Fishing

Those pictures of Big Shooters hawg do not do the big'in justice. It was a Real BIG FISH.:D As for the blade baits, Big Shooter and I were talking and you guys from out of town really schooled us locals.:o We have decided not to let you guys fish in our back yard any more. LOL. Now on a more serious note, I think I am going to use blade baits from now on in that river. Why?, because Big Shooter and I were thinking that those blade baits resemble the primary bait fish for those eyes in this water shed. Shad that is, big silver shad. More shad in this river than minnows. Thanks guys for teaching me something new. Come soft water as soon as the bay opens up gunna have to get some of ya out on the bay @ night for these eyes. If I get a chance to get out during the week after work will give a shout on the radio, if not will be out Saturday. Thinking about going to the Steelheaders show on Sunday at the IMA. Fish On and you really don't need a gaff.:D

Backlash is right, when I first caught the fish I thought it was maybe a 9 or 10 pounder but the guy next to me convinced me to weight it. God I wish it was'nt deformed. 31" is outragous. Best walleye I've ever caught I hope it dos'nt take 30 years to catch another 11lber:D :D Oh well good fishin!
