I don't know if you guys have much problem with sluch on the ice but we sure do at Munuscong. Tonight I was out about 3 miles and found a big bunch of it. Stuck my snowmobile right to the seat. Two young guys came over and helped push, pull, and lift in water up to your knees. I didn't ask them for help they just came over and started pulling. Good thing cause I would still be there if not for the help.
After reading the forum the last couple days, I thought some good press on minors might help out.

You seem to forget that you live in a different world up there in the youp.------- Not all minors are bad but it seems that they are the ones that are in the limelight. Heard a report the other day, seemed like 30% of the boose is consumed by under age drinkers.

I don't think that walleye lives in a different world. I think for the most part teens get a pretty bad rap. Whether it is the clothing, the booze, the drugs, or the music every time you turn on the television you hear about kids doing this and that.

I was a stereotypical teenager, i drank quite heavily, swore and sometimes could be quite obnoxious. BUT!!!! i never once drove while drunk, or under the influence of anything. And my friends were the same way we all loved to party but driving was out of the question.

Maybe i should have made this post under the other thread, as this is somewhat off topic to this thread. But because of the tone i stayed out of it because i would not have helped.

Teens are no different today than they were 20 years ago, in fact.....if i remember the statistics correctly my fathers generation which gradutated highschool in the early 70's had a much higher rate of drunk driving deaths than my generation. (note for those of you that don't know me i am only 22)

But back to the original topic of this thread, teens are not bad and not evil. Teens are going to drink as they have for 50 years, they are going to get in trouble. They are going to do dumb things. Just as with adults there are good ones and bad ones. Myself i see most teens as being all around good people. Some may disagree, but to each his own.

We used to push cars out of the snow for fun on snowdays. There alot of good minors especially the ones that tell you all abot the good fishing spots in the area or help tow a deer for free.. The bad minors are good for bait too. Great post

People in general are very helpful toward their fellow man. Color, religion, age and origin have little to do with the desire to get along.

As one ages, it becomes more and more evident.

Nice Post Walleyeman. :)

Personally, I'm very tired of slamming a subset of our population. Only rarely have I ran into a situation where animosity overshadowed the good in all.

How bad could a kid be if he/she was on the ice fishing? Or fishing anywhere for that matter!

Hey, take a kid fishing, look what happens!

Nice to see some good news on the youngster front! I for one was one of those help push people out of the snow/sand kids. not for money, but because someone needed the help. It provided humor as well as one guy stuck in the sand at Pere Marquette beach said to me "How deep is this sand? Isnt there cement down under there?" I bout fell over laughing!!

My son brings friends over to the cottage once and a while - they're always polite and helpful. What they do when there are no adults monitoring them, or they believe none are may be different. I count my blessings frequently that my son did not follow my tracks through the teenage years. A while ago, he told me he was going to a party at a friends house. I asked him what what kind of party (he's 17). It was a LAN party "Local Area Network." When I was 17, our parties were all BYOB/BYOD...and how I went all the way through high school without getting killed or knowing someone that got killed or killed someone else is a statisical anomally that I can't explain. Dumb luck...with the emphasis on DUMB.

Teens today are most definetly not all bad.....I believe I said this a few months back....

I spent a lot of time around the highschool in the fall when my old son played football, and my younger son was on the golf team.....After being around that football team for 4 years, I have never seen a more polite, respectful group of kids who were a pleasure to talk to. Even now I hear nothing bad about them, and their all busy linng up colleges to attend in the fall, and playing winter sports.
I'm sure their not all angels, but their teens, and teens get into the crap every now and again. It doesn't make them bad people.

I agree. Teens aren't all bad, but they do screw up sometimes. Who doesn't. I think that some people, as they get older, tend to get a case of nostesia (combination of nostalgia and amnesia). You know the "back in my day" syndrome.

I couldn't agree more, Teens get a bad rap. Ya, there are good ones and bad ones (just like any age group) but we all seem to forget that we were there once and just like todays teens, we were just trying to find our way and trying to find our place in this world.

Anybody else hear the reports that todays teens do less drugs than teens in the past 5 generations ?
I say KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !!!

As for the report (which I also heard on the news) that says that 30% of the Alcohol that is consumed in America is consumed by minors, I have to ask this question, Are we looking in the wrong place for someone to blame ?

These "terrible" teens are either being sold this alcohol by the "adult" store owners and operators "OR" they are getting an "adult" to buy the booze for them. In my opinion, If we want to blame somebody we need to go after the people who are Illegally supplying it to them.

How many times have you been in a party store and watched a minor buy booze and/or cigarettes. How many times have you seen an adult buy booze in the store just to see him/her give it to a minor when they get outside. Hell, I've stood there and watched an adult (non minor) ask a minor (in front of the store clerk) what they wanted, then purchase it for them.

I'll never forget the time that I found out my daughter was smoking cigarettes. I asked her where she got them and she informed me that she bought them at the store up the street. I wanted to go up there and ring somebodies neck but instead I told them that they were wrong for doing it and I haven't been back there sense.

As for any teens that may read this, There are also reports that prove that the younger you start drinking the greater the possibility that you will become an alcoholic later in life. I know from reading other forum threads that there are some recovering alcoholics who contribute to this site and I'm sure they would also back this up.

Do yourself a favor and wait to drink. It could be the best thing that you will do for yourself and your future.

As for cigarettes, I've been smoke free sense Sept 16th 2002. Started when I was a teenager and they had a hold of me for 24 years. What a waste of money, time, and life. Want to do yourself another favor, Stay away from tobacco. Ask any smoker, Ill bet they all wish they had that decision to do over...

Sorry about the lecture, I'll get off of my soap box now.

Just like anything else... There are some real a**hole teens, and there are some darn good ones. Funny, seems to be the case in the adult population too. Personally, I've run into a LOT more drunk adults on the ice than teens (old thread, I know). Anyway, I agree, there are definitely some quality young people out there. I have a 13 year old son who is very polite, respectful and helpful. I'm optimistic about the future.

I'm 16 and I have never drank, smoke, snorted, huffed or have had sex and I'm still very popular and have a girlfriend. Most kids think they have to show off or drink to get friends but so far I haven't had to do any of that.I agree that there are alot of bad kids BUT the majority is good most of the time. This deer season I got my deer on opening morning and spent the rest of the morning helping other guys gut and drag their deer(we were huntin public) and they all tried to give me money and were shocked when I turned them down.I was also raised in a good military, catholic home and was raised right. There are alot of good teens out there you just gotta give them a chance,Shane

I'm right with Shane, I'm 16, Never done anything, and nobody i hang around with does. All i all the kids at my school dont really do that stuff. I dont know everyone, but i play fooball, basketball, and baseball, and also have a girlfriend, and our friends just dont do that stuff. I thank the teachers, and programs, and church for all of this, i think they are really getting through to teens. Most of all i thank my dad for getting me involved outdoors since i was a baby. I think it really helps keep me busy. And being an outdoorsman you can really show a person what kind of person you really are. My example cme last year after my friends and my trip to the pm. A less fortunate man approached us at the gas station, he may very well have been homeless, and asked us about the fish, and said he's lve to be luck enough to have one for a meal, so i gladly handed my 15lb king over to him in hopes he would get a meal, and maybe even boost his morale a little, since he seemed pretty down on his life. But yes teens do do some stuff, but also yes teens are overall good people.

Alex,
Dont worry, most people understand that as "kids" there are alot of differences between teens and the "older" guys.
As humans we are all the same, i accept the differences/ growing pains that teenagers face daily. My advise to you is to enjoy your freedom while it last, do whatever you enjoy most and make sure your prepared to enter the real world when the time comes.
Most adults for some reason are "scared" of the youth of today. They are so set in there ways, a little green hair or some baggy pants set them off.............
The youths of today are the future of this country, Shane, Alex be proud of who you are.
