Fished north of the bridge this evening. Missed one hit, lost one fish, and lost another one just before leaving, it broke my leader. Seen a few decent fish taken this evening, and also seen a guy pull up a sucker, lol. Alot of guy's fishing the Melborne Rd side of the river, what's up with that? Does this side have a better bottom than the other? They were all pretty much lined up with the bouy. There must have been at least 100 people out there fishing. You could have sworn that with all the people around, that the fish were in there thicker than s_ _ _ !!

The one's that I did see taken, were taken on jig's and minnow's, but i'm not sure of the color of the jig's they were using. I think I'm gonna hit it in the morning but not where i'm gonna go though. Still some decent ice out there.

Good luck, be safe, and have fun

I was in Saginaw today on business and stopped by the "secret spot" North of the Z bridge for some late afternoon fishing. I appreciate the information posted on this board for us "non locals".

I sat down and in two minutes had a 4.5 pounder on the ice. With that start I thought I would light it up, but it turned out to be my only fish - go figure. I missed one other hit. I fished more in the middle of the river and around me there were very few fish caught. Alot of skunks. As I was walking off I did see some nice catches though.

Hopefully I can get back before the season is over.

Keep the information coming. It is appreciated.

Four of us wood ticks ventured down I-75 in search of the illusive Sagnasty Marble-Eyes this morning. We had wet lines by 6 a.m. Lost a bunch, none were iced. Fire tiger and green & pearl jiggin' raps seemed to be the ticket. After a quick break we ventured out into the shipping channel a little further than we should have. I took one step off the side of the trail that everyone had been walking on to auger another hole ..... down I went. When I got out, the hole ended up being about 8 x 5. Totally freaked out, I drove to the nearest laundromat, dried my clothes and was back on the ice by 2 p.m. One short of my limit by p.m. Another bud got his limit - the other two guys just couldn't get the hang of it. Nice to come home with fish this time (since I was nearly one of them today):D ! Will be back Friday (if my wife lets me after telling her of my near death experience) with the crew from the north.

It happened so fast.....I had pictures of my wife bitchin about me tellin her about how thin some of the ice was last week and how close to open water we were. One of the guys I was with fished the "CRATER" I went in while I was dryin' my clothes lol. We all ended up back on safe ice after I got back. I wanted to get further out into the channel but was a little gun shy. We're comin' back down in the a.m. Where are you guys gonna be at?

Have the ice conditions on the river been improving over the last few days with the cold weather?

Is the shipping channel ice dangerous? I'm hearing of fisherman going thru. Where is the thin ice? Out in the very middle of the river?

We like to drill four holes in our shanty and a few outside as well. Do you worry about drilling lots of holes in the same area because of ice conditions? Or, are a few fearless people just trying to go farther out then needed to get away from the crowds and ending up risking there life?

I probaly drilled 50 holes last week in the area where we are going to be fishing on friday and I didn't find any bad ice. You have to remeber it is a river and just watch where there are old holes. The ice was at least 8" where ever I drilled.

I got called into a meeting late in the day and had to cancel my fishing plans. My buddy went solo. He ended up with two nice fish. Lost one hog (broke his pole when setting the hook)
He said he missed a half dozen light hits. All action in the last hour of daylight. Sounds like the fish are in!
Hopefully, I'm heading up tonight.
Good Fishing,

Does anyone fish after dark for the hogs? Or do they turn off when the lights go out. Might go up tonight, but can't get there till ~6:30. Is it worth going? Thanks.

Steelfisher.

Some people will stay a couple hour'sd after dark, and some will leave about an hour after dark. Most of my fish (in the evening) have been caught within the last hour of daylight, and the first hour after it's dark out. I stayed one day until 8pm and didn't have a hit since 7pm. So myself, i'm usually off the ice by 6:30 or 7. But you never know when therre gonna get hungry, so give it a try.

Good luck

Personally, I haven't had much luck after dark on the river.
I've heard of guys doing good, and I've tried several times with little success. My buddy caught 2 nice eyes between 6:00 and 7:00pm a couple of days ago.
I fished this morning from 7:00 to 8:30am with no success.
I missed a couple of light hits. I didn't mark much either!
Hope to give it another try this evening
Good Fishing,
Krazy Kletus
