Saginaw River 2-25-03

Well, I've gotta send 3 thanks to Slammer00. I was planning on going to LSC this AM but after seeing the info on the river for Monday PM I decided to knock off work early yesterday and give the river another shot. I have fished it 6 times this season, including the outing, and had yet to get a fish. Thanks 1) Jigging Rap #5 Firetiger. I stopped at a bait store north of Flint on my way up to get minnows and a couple lures. I don't know what those minnows they had in stock were, but they looked like shad, not the 'blues' or spot tails I was expecting (and wanted). I didn't even look at them til I got to the river though.:( Thanks 2) After 1 1/2 hours of nothing, I asked slammer if I could have a couple of his minnows which he graciously allowed. About 1/2 hour (maybe less) after sending down the Rap with stinger and slammer minnow I had just finished a couple lift and drops and was setting down the rod when WHAM! FISH ON! This bad boy was pulling out some drag, which weezer can attest to. He was not far outside my shanty and said he heard the drag peeling. As I gained line on the fish he was suddenly right up under the ice. I saw him slide sideways under the hole and the only thing I could think of was all the posts I've seen about the front or rear hook getting caught at the bottom of the hole.:eek: Thanks 3) I gave a call out to slammer and he showed up with his gaff just as the fish's head came up the hole. He nailed the fish right under/behind the gill like nobody's business, and the lure came out as the fish came into the shanty.:) Weezer guesstimated the fish at 8 lbs. When I got home I pulled my scale out of the boat and it weighed in at 8.5 lbs and 27.5". Good eye there weezer! Thanks again Chris. I can't wait for Friday to see if I can find that fish's twin (or triplets or quads or quints).:D See you all there! Here's the fish.

Hey Higherpowered,

Awsome fish what a hog good going.
My pal hogty and I got to the river at 4:30 today and they were pullin them in left and right. So we set up got ou holes drilled and my second or third lift fish on oh off:mad: Then a dink 12"er on the Ice. My first river ice fishing eye so I let the little fella go and get big. I missed a couple more then landed a nice eater at 16". Hogty had a couple hits but nothing on the ice. Then all of a sudden the bite stopped, couldn't believe it This all took place in about an hour and a half. If things go right we'll hit it again tomorrow. Great fish again.:D

WOW! Excellent high powered!

The river and I don't seem to get along, I have fished it at least 20 times (open water and ice)and have never landed a single walleye. But all this talk has me completely psyched for Friday!!! If you fellas dont mind you may see Scotty,BigK,and Gus givin it a shot! (they have caught numerous sag. marbles, yours truly excluded)
