Went fishing at Stoney today on the North Lake with my youngest and with my Dad. My Dad has fished through out the world but today was his first time ice fishing, ever. I picked him up early and the first thing out of his mouth was, "Have you looked at the thermometer?!?!" Yep, it said 7 degrees, LOL!

He was nervous about the ice, but after I drilled holes through 20+" of ice, he was very reassured that it was safe ice.:D The sun was out in full force and the shanty was nice and warm without the heater. There was absolutely no wind out there.

The gills were biting once we figured out what bait and tear drop they wanted! Mousies on a small bright pink or red tear drop worked great and so did tube jigs. Weren't interested in waxies at all. Caught a steady amount of fish in a couple of hours with no real monsters, but fun none the less. I caught a nice 8" golden shiner that I would have loved to put on a tip up if we had time.

My Dad must have had fun because next week we are going to fish the main lake for more gills, perch, and maybe even a walleye!:D

Sounds like a fun time. 3 generations on the ice, what could beat that. Enjoy next week.

Sarah,
It's nice to hear that you BOTH didn't fall in. I think that runs in the family. (Not my side) :D :D

20+" of ice ?!!! I bet it's been a while since we've seen THAT MUCH ice down here in SE Michigan !

Now I'm REAL glad I bought a power auger. :D

Tanglewood..

If I have ANY advice to dispense on here, it's...

ALWAYS bring 1 tip up, for each person, to the north lake.

More than likely you won't be disappointed at the end of the day.

Although I have not spent as much time as usual at that lake this year, I have managed the following as 'best fish for the ice/season' there...

pike - 29" (but avg there this year is 23.75")
LM Bass - 3 4+lb fish 21, 20.5 & 20 inch.

Fidel Casserole, thanks for the advice! I'll be sure to set one up next time I get out there.

Tanglewood is fine! I also go by tanglebranch, tangleshrub, tangleline, tanglemess, you get the idea, LOL!

Quest, it took some convincing to get him out there!;)
