Fishing in the harbor is picking up. Browns are being taken about 4 to 1 over steelies. Some perch, rock bass and pike also being taken. Thick ice over the entire harbor. Minnows, waxworms, cleos, swedish pimples are still the hot baits.
Keep your tip up and your bait wet! Good Luck!! Mike

A good friend of mine got a 15# Brown in Sanilac last week. He said there were lots of fish around but they had major lock-jaw. That was Monday of last week.

pmtiny,

Went to lexington mon. from 4:00pm till dark nothing. Stayed locally and got back on the ice at 6:30am tues. morn. had two fish in a 1/2 hr span take and rake my minnows. o for 2 on the browns:mad: fished till 2:00 pm nothing else. I did hear that someone close to the ramps picked up a small brown around 11:30am.
The fish are there, whether they bit or not is a different matter.
Good luck to you.

Danger,

When you go, at the mouth the ice blew out and then skimmed over with added snow so as you venture be careful by the mouth of the harbor...

Fished Lexington Monday afternoon, 0 for 1 and a couple bumps.
Very new to Lexington Ice fishing so I went to Mullins Sports in town and spoke with Mike. Mike set me up with minnows, Cleo's and a fishing report. Only had a couple hours to fish but thanks to Mike we did hook in to a steelhead (Thanks Mike!!!). But we lost the fish at the hole. I did exactly what Mike told us to do and it worked. I never jigged a cleo with minnow before but that's what the fish bit on. Also spoke to two guys leaving the ice when we started and they showed me nice 5-6 pound steelhead they caught on wax worm and tear drop jig.

What types of rods do most of you use for steelies and browns up in Lex/Sanilac when fishing through the ice? Also, what type of line do most of you use? I've never went after trout or salmon thru the ice and I was just curious about trying. Thanks in advance.

BTC,
I can't go this weekend. But I'm not in a hurry...judging by the ice thickness, it will be there until at least August.

10 below yesterday, 6 below this morning...the cold weather has its effects on how fish bite, but not on fishermans attitides. There were a few lucky guys out yesterday, but the cold weather seems to have slowed it some the last couple days. It can only get better from here though. Spring is 4 weeks away, and dispite this winters cold heart, its gonna start to warm.
The ice has developed a few questionable areas near the mouth of the Lexington, and Sanilac harbors. PLEASE USE DUE CAUTION ON THIS AND ANY ICE! The lake on some days has some great looking ice on it as well, but..having lived here my entire life I can tell you without hesitation...don't go out on it!!
We are now open at 6am.....we will always be open an hour before the sun! Coffee is on and free so stop by and say hi!
Keep your tip up and your bait wet! Good Luck!! Mike
