I've got a 3 hp.,10" Lazer. It's about 6 or 7 yo.I was going to exchange the blades w/ strikemaster's blade service .But,,I went to Bass-pro-shop today & they had the 9" triple-blade w/power point (auger bit only) for$101.(on clearance). My question-Is it worth spending the extra money for the "newer -faster",but smaller auger,.or,should I keep what I've got? Keeping in mind the older 10" doesn't have a center point, & tends to skate...Any of you guys ever raced these two ???Any advice would be great ! Also-I don't think Union has any walleye left, been out there 4 times w/no luck....BG

Gils I also had the 10 inch and went to Bass Pro and bought the 9 inch 3 blade and it is awesome wish I would have bought it long ago. But blades are cheaper.

I haven't used the newer one your talking about. But we have a 10' and anything smaller than that is to small for me for walleyes.
just my 2 cents.

If the point is gone off your auger then you would probably be better off buying a new drill. You have the big motor, now you need the bad boy three blade. I did talk with a guy that has one and he said it tends to wander when you are starting a hole, but one you start they finish quick. But like he said Blades are cheaper (10 bucks). Good Luck

I don't think you're gonna notice "that big" of a difference between the 9" and 10", and those triple blades look like " the cat's meow" As for the "skating or wandering", just get that auger blade up to FULL throttle before you stick it in the ice, I've never had a problem with a "skating blade".

I just talked to a guy this morning at East Bay Outfitters who called strikemaster today about his ultra mag (3 Blade). He has been having problems with the drill (staring holes especially) strikemaster told him they have had alot of complaints on that and they had a problem with some of the first ones made. They told him to ship it back to them and they will send him a new auger. They said they have corrected the problem, something to due with the angle of the blades? If you think you might have a problem, you might want to call or e-mail strikemaster.

I am sorry I should have mentioned that. I also talked to the guy at Bass Pro and he told me the same about the first ones that were made. The ones they have on sale are not of that bunch also if you look at the Ultra Mag you can change the TIP if it gets dull unlike others. Personaly I have had no problems out of mine and I take it inside my 6800 Clam to mark the holes and it starts the hole were I put it no wandering. IF ANY OF YOU GUYS ARE GOING TO THE SAGINAW OUTING THIS FRIDAY YOU CAN GIVE MINE A TRY.

Thanks - all for your input. That's what makes this site work ! Mike_H , I appreciate the vote of confidence. You alone persueded me {MY WIFE} to make the upgrade. Thank-you...BG . P.S. I dropped a hook & weight to the bottom of Union to check the depth, pulled my line up and 3 zebra mussels attatched themselves to my treble. Anybody ever have that happen ???
