To keep the mind whirring while it's still -8 below each night;

Where do you like to go, or stay in Michigan?
What time of year is the best time to go there?

Just thought about a thread to get us thinking outside, if'n we can't get out. Forget about duct tape, doesn't stick below freezing.

Nobody goes anywhere anymore? I'm not saying give up your secret spot to go, but just figured somebody would like to add to it.
PB,
The bmr is pretty cool to kayak and fish. Head down there a couple times a year. Will be there for the fishing tourneys at Insta-Launch campground and marina this summer again.

I go to my hunting property. It is a great time to scout.

I go north to snowboard. Might be hitting boyne next weekend.

I once in a gray moon go down to south but I rather stay in michigan even though I hate the cold.

Great idea!

Toss up for the favorite spot:

1. Manistee National Forest, just off the beach.
2. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore--west end.

Both are splendid in the dog days of summer or early fall. Cool and breezy and miles between me and the rest of the world. Hmmm....thanks, I needed that.

dcherie,
That's what I'm talking about! I like the high rollaways east of Buckley on the Manistee. I went once about midnight. The fog was low, and all I could see was the Harrietta Mt. range to the south. The whole valley was covered in thick fog, and it was a full moon! Howled a little that night! They built a platform to view and sit, last I heard they were going to cut a few trees down to make a turn around, but are not going to pave it.

I spent a week down in Ludington and went out to Big Sable Light. Man! Sand dunes all over, miles after miles of sandy beach. A really cool campground that is filled to capicity every year now, you have to know your site and reserve it a year in advance.

Gogebic county has a couple campgrounds. One is on Little Girls Point. I think a dozen sites right on the bluff of Lk. Superior. I plan on spending a week over there with the motor home as soon as it warms up.

There is another campsite off the upper portage entrance in Stanton Twp, called Stanton Twp campground. It is right on Lk Superior on the south side of the Portage canal, across from
Mc Lain State park.

I was visiting friends once and they took me to Otter Lk campground at the genesee/lapeer co. border. The primative side was they place to stay, but for a small lake it was pretty cool.

The campground east of the Soo is pretty cool to watch the frieghters go by less than 100 yds away.

Stelmon,

I like to go south too. My aunt has a horse farm down in Cynthiana, Ky. Stayed down in the valley for a week, got tore up by fire ants or spiders. Pussed up a couple days after the bite, looked like a big zit. Spent some time at Lk Barkley and Kentucky lk. Missed a week long house boat trip on Dale Hollow res. once.

Let's hear your place!!:D
