Hey everyone,
I'm heading up to the Houghton Lake area on Tuesday. I've been checking around and it seems that most of the campgrounds are closed for the winter. Does anyone know of an open one? It doesn't have to be on the lake, but I would like to be within 15-20 minutes.
Thanks
Ray

Depending on where you are fishing on Houghton, I think the south Higgins Lake campground is still open in the winter.

I used to think that the sp was open all year also until I drove into it one day. They plowed the road up to the the boat ramps, and the offices, and no farther. You couldn't get to where the camp sites are.

Try the HL chamber of commerce website: www.houghtonlakechamber.com or
Lymans: http://www.houghtonlakefishing.com for information, I saw a few places listed there.

Or you can try calling the Roscommon County Vistors Center in Houghton Lake, they're accross from the High School. Sorry, dont have there number but have stopped in a few times, they have tons of stuff for everything around there.

Good Luck!

We stayed at one, can't remember the name, the weekend before TUT:

(From US27)
If you take the Houghton Lake exit for M55, go just over 1/2mi east on M55 and you come to Old US27 (stop light/state police post). Go left (north) just a couple hundred yards on the left (west) side of the road.

Practically right accross road from the DNR West Boat Launch, a really good restaurant and a party store. RV site with power, didn't attempt to use water at site, bath house was cold and pipes were frozen. That said we had everything we needed??? $18/night as I recall.

If not there try driving on M-55 west of town, drive past the park at Reedsberg Dam and the next road is called Jeff's road. There is a county park where M-55 crosses over Jeffs road on the river that has 10 sites run as pay in the tube, no facilities.

My brother-in-law had his camper up there for TUT a couple years ago. I think the name of it was Woodland or Wood something. Nice campground with a clean showers.
