I was just wondering if anyone on the site has one of these frs/gps units? If yes, what do you think of it? I was looking to possibly get one and I just wanted some opinions. Thanks in advance.

I did a search and entered "garmin rino" with the quotes and this was one of the first posts to come up. There were a few more.

Decided to go ahead and pick up the Rino 120 the other day for around $210(no tax).I just have to say this thing is bada**, Extremely easy to use and boasts a whole lot of really neat features.

I thought I saw a report that most of the troops over there are issued a similar unit like the Rino (or maybe it is a Rino). That would sure sound intelligent so they don't accidently walk into Bagdad without the rest of the troops. The dessert hasn't trees or bumps to tell you which way is up and down......

I'm browsing GPS units right now for a upcoming bday present and have a few questions.

Anyone have the software for the home computer that goes with it? How do you like it? Does it save info for you (ie, river holes so if I go back to that river a year later I can download the coordinates where the fish were and get back)?

The FRS part, does it work with plain FRS radios or does it only communicate with other Rhino's?

Thanks....

They will work with other FRS radios as long as the other FRS radios are using standard frequencies. Some do not use the same frequencies. Their is places on the internet that show charts of different manufacturers and the frequencies they use. Just dont ask me to remember were on the net I saw them. If you get to a point were you need to know the Garman 120 frequencies , let me know I have them.

Gunrod,

You don't need the software to get back to particular coordinates. If you find productive spots, all you have to do is mark them as a waypoint on your GPS. From there, all you have to do is punch in that particular waypoint again on your GPS and there you go. I'm thinking of buying the metroguide software for my rino just because I want the extremely detailed street-level mapping. The rino can communicate with any FRS user and when 2 rino users are in contact they can see each others exact location on their GPS mapping. Hope this answers your questions.PM me if you have any more.

My thinking with the software and the home computer was that the add said it holds 500 waypoints. If I start marking fishing holes and hunting spots I think I can fill that up in a year. I would want to download those spots to my personal computer and pull them onto the rhino when heading to a specific lake/river or hunting area.

Will it save more than 500 points? 500 sounds like a lot until you start fishing the PM, Huron, Manistee, Ausable, etc.....then add hunting areas and I think you could fill 500 pretty quick.

One more question, what's the major differences between the 110 and 120 model besides the 1MB vs. 8MB and the road maps? Oh and the $70. I don't see much need for the road maps but don't want to lose out just to save $70.

I know Garmin sells additional memory for the rino units, therefore you could save tons of waypoints with the extra memory. Another alternative would be to write down or type down some older coordinates and just punch them in when you need them(if you don't want to buy the extra memory). Just check out garmin.com for the differences I would say, I think they better explain it then I do.

Thanks, went to Gander today to check them out. I'm leaning towards the 120. Just seems easier to have the memory already there.
