Does anybody have any experience fishing Lake Ovid, nestled within the confines of Sleepy Hollow State Park? I live in Lansing and have been intrigued about fishing out there. I have heard rumors of good bluegill fishing there. Any specks? Any pike? I did find a 12" bluegill washed up on the boat launch while doing tests on the lake for a class in back November. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the site!
As to your question, there are a few of us who fish Ovid fairly regularly, so I hope you get some other input, as well.
For my 2c worth, yes there are lots of gills in the lake, but you have to work at it to get a mess of eating-size fish. Personally, I have done the best fishing in less than 10FOW, focusing on about 1-2ft off bottom. (Other guys do well fishing in deeper water, so don't get locked into one depth!) Chartreuse and White have been my most productive colors this year, and I tend to use size 12 most times, and 14 more often than 10. Spikes sometimes work when waxworms don't.
There are indeed specs, and can be caught in the same areas as the gills. The pike seem few and far between.
You will see where most people fish, but I would suggest doing a good bit of roaming around, perhaps starting where you see people fishing, but venturing away from them. I think the best strategy is to plan on catching a couple fish in one hole, then move on to another.
Hope this helps,
DaveW

Thanks for the info. Perhaps I will get out there once next week.
