Went to St. Lukes thursday. Got there around 11:00am and missed most of the good bite but two of us did get 45 hog perch. I've not seen big perch like this in a long time. Many 13 to 14+".
Fished about 3.5 miles out in 12 to 13' of water. Most came on a tube jig or a Kens spoon with a red Jens egg. fished about 24" off the bottom. AND HANG ON.
Sorry did'nt see the forum note, Move this thread to the right spot Please
And thank you.

What seems to be the best lure there?? It seems ken spoons, but it sounds almost anything will work there. On ken spoons, i found that tipping it with a minnow is impossible, do you tip it with a spike, or waxie??? It seems that area is the lake simcoe of last year with more veriety, and much closer to home!!!!!

OK ESOX, I just saw your post about getting me out there and I'm way ahead of you. I'm working on an invite from a couple buddies that have transportation. A couple trips ago my buddy got 2 over 14 and the last trip he got a 14 3/4. Another friend wacked a hog that was 15 inches. There just might be something to this ice fishing thing after all! I get my share of jumbos in the fall but those 14+ just laugh at my bait!:(
Congrats George on a great catch! Dang, you even PMed me to try to give me a nudge and I missed out! Wonder where those fish are in the Fall? Sooner or later, I'm going to find them, I hope.

Man Ed, I fish there often and I get plenty of numbers and a lot of jumbos but 14+ are rare. I get numerous fish in the high 13's every year but anything bigger than that eludes me. I've had a couple on but lifting them over the gunwale has not been easy. I had a double on one time that broke my rod. The fish that went in the boat was 13 3/4 and the bigger one fell back in the lake. Of course I would have released it anyway. Yea right.

True Gone fishing 14" 15" are not as common in summer as seem to be in winter. Biggest last year 14 1/4. But i'll take 10 to 13 inchers all day long. There is a chance that we'll be seeing these hogs later in the year. Perch appear to be getting bigger every year . :D

Sorry guys wrong day. It was wens. the 5th. As to the lure ?. There were two guys next to us who got there early. One guy used only a tubejig hooked backwards the other guy changed lures every 5 or 6 fish and they both hit 50 at 1:00pm. So that shows that if the bite is on you can use what you like. John Iknow we fish this spot in the summer and fall. It's kind of between the Johnson and the Basset. But like I told You they were in Micheles bay last week. so they are moving. If we could get Paul to scare the Mooskies away they might stay put for a while.

Went out this am,, back tires broke through on the big crack on the way out(3-4 miles),, had to search a mile in each direction to find a way back this afternoon!
The ice heaved today and the pressure crack is now about a foot taller than this am! BE VERY CAREFUL!!
Fishing was slow, 3 of us 6 hours, 50 fish total!
