Well I went out to muster up a perch dinner out by cotton rd area. The day started out very slow a few dinks then a nice jumbo got me excited. After a couple hours and about half dozen fish later. I made a move of a lifetime unbelievable. The schools kept comming in one after another by 2:30 pm had my limit. At that point I started trading 8-9" fish for 10-11" fish. When a school would come in I would discard my minow and use a fish eye and bam bam bam !!!:D

Also I just purchased a new trap voyager shanty what a time to break her in.
Best catch in a looonnnggg time on anchor bay!!!

Later Wally...

Great Job!

Ya always pray for one of those days, ya just never know when they will come.

How far out did ya have to go?

I'm not looking for your secret spot , I'm just wondering

Wow SteelYarn, good for you. I've never limited out on anything, but if I had to choose, perch would be it.

All I've heard all year is that the fish have lockjaw. Congratulations and thanks for the report. It is encouraging.

That has been my best fishing hole this year. I have been taking a guy out there that hasn't ice fished in 30 years. Each time we go out we have done great. I keep telling him this isn't the way it usually is!

You should be certain to use a chainsaw or spud and chop that hole out before the thaw and toss it in the freezer. That way, you can take it out and use it again next year! :D

I wish I had more days like the one described, especially on the ice. There really is nothing like looking down in your hole and seeing a school of jumbos! :)

Too funny Ruler.:D

Glad to hear it Wally. I knew you'd hook into them sooner or later. I've never known you to go long without a good catch. Congrats.....

Its really funny how things work out. The 4-5 times i've been out I have seen lots of fish through the hole. Now the lockjaw thing comes into play and my bunch becomes a chosen few. So I decided I'll get even with those finicky perch and brought my spear. I never had a chance to finesse the long slender tines into the back of a banded minnow thief.:D

That's very encouraging. A couple of my buddies and I were going to give St. Clair a try this weekend. Have never fished out there, but that right there is a reason to give it a shot.

Congrats

It does sound like a great day on the lake. But I was curious that you said you were sorting fish. Were you keeping the smaller ones alive in a bucket? It seems to me that if the fish were released after being on the ice that they would probably swim away, but not survive.

Actually I started filleting the littleones didn't like the size of the fillets so I would use them as chum they didn't swim very far..ok ok just kiddin:D Yea I keep a bucket with fresh water in it when I pick up some 8" fish I will try to spare their lives in hopes for a little larger fish as you can see in my pics there are a few around 8" those were the first ones caught couldnt save those or should I say swap. Also some are missing eyes although they were spunkey in the bucket I thought not to let them go into the wild one eyed:eek:

If you guys havnt noticed... perch eyes are doing a little better than minnows...... Its good to experiment..... ecspecially when your not catching fish anywayS, if you ask me.... i think somone should put a fish eye in a hole and let it sit.... then jig a jigging rapala like crazy til you attract fish in.... then maybe go back to the perch eye. (just a thought) and even better yet, just tip off ur jigging rapala with a perch eye, netcha youll beat the living daylights outta them.

I fish strictly to cotton road. have livved quite close for many years. Always have had my best days there. Have fished all over the place in the past and never did as well. Got tired of going elsewhere and saying i shoulod have gone to cotton road. Alot more people have been venturing out there this year compared to years passed and the pressure has seemed to slow the bite at times, but still produces well. Always seem to at least catch a few keepers even if i dont get into them. Good job on the good day! havent been able to get out much lately but caught my limit several times there this year. I am going out on sunday, i will post my report on sun night. Til then fish on guys!

a lot of guys didn't read the date cause they where all out there this morning. about 40yrds from the crack. i knew something was up when this lady told me her and her husband where there all day yesturday and nobody was fishing over there all day. it may be funny to some but not very sporting especilly for guy's who count on honest reports to plan what maybe the only day they get to go out . like the to fellows i met there today that came out from port huron to fish cause of what they read here on this forum.
it takes all kind.:bash:
