I took a quick drive around today. They are still getting out of Linwood and crossing the pressure crack, so I assume all is ok.

Take your creepers with ya. It looks like most of the snow has been burnt from the suface.

As of today I havent heard of any signifigant cracks opening up anywhere but off of state park. I heard that crack was opened up about 10-15 foot in spots but guys where still crossing a bit more down towards the river. As far as linwood a ton of guys have been in for minnows and they have been saying that its looking good out there. Just watch the sandbars and current areas because a few quads have gone through out there in the last few days. This past weekend we had great reports from 12-20 foot of water 2-4miles out depending on what roads you are running out from. We had such a huge weekend we are still trying to recover from it by restocking right now.. I bet we sold over a thousand dojigers/pimples this past weekend and just got our second large order in.. but the one that everyone is asking for are those dave genz flying jigs!! We dont have them right now but hopefully friday we will have them back in.

So linwood rd. or kitchen rd. seems to be the safe 'go' for the weekend, eh? That's where I'll be ......as always, worrying about the cracks.... Provinding the winds stay down like they are today we should be good to go.....opinions anyone?

Updates are very much appreciated as we'll be heading up from flint to get out there at 6am saturday morning.

Thanks and good luck on the bay this weekend!!....I've yet to put an 'eye on the ice this winter....I can feel it coming!

The Black Hole is where it's happening, a couple of my Dad's buddies went out the other day, and hit 23 fish, 4-7lbs, and lost one monster. Be careful as always!

Saw one van out there last weekend and he only came out to the first crack and parked.....kinda scary if you ask me. This whole fishin' the bay thing kinda spooks me anyway, but I'm going anyway (with gps and radio in hand.)

I think now I'm more concerned about the glassy ice, better get some cleats....i'm sure it'll make towing the shanty out very interesting.

I wouldnt drive a old banged up ugo out there none the less a full size truck. We not talking about the north pole here.. its the bay.. come on. You wouldnt really consider taking your truck out there would you?!!!! Insurance doesnt cover going through the ice and hell.. the fines for dropping a truck through the ice are massive.

3 Trucks were parked at the first crack off of Linwood last Saturday.......I'm not that brave!

Sideshow,
Are the fishing reports still decent?
I've heard from a few people that the bay fishing has slowed considerably after that blow on Tuesday.
I'm hoping to make it out tomorrow. Thanks in advance for any info.

Just a quick warning fellas. Put my quad into the drink at the first crack last night on the way in. It looked fine and I checked it but it gave way. Thank god a buddy was with me to pull it out. With no snow, he had a hard time getting traction. No Fish. Trust me, last night wasn't one of my more happier moments in my life. Nobody I talked with got anything - they said they nailed them in 12 ft on Monday before the blow.

Anybody ever put a quad through the ice?? I've got it in a heated shed today and will drain all the fluids tonight. Hope it runs.

Just an FYI to you all to be xtra careful at those cracks.

Doogster,
Sorry to hear that.
I thought the cracks were still safe after the blow?
I'm getting ready to head out tonite. Any suggestions?
Maybe Bay City State Park or Pinconning?

Are quite a few people still heading out of Linwood?

Well I hope this isn't too forward... But.... This black hole everyone keeps talking about, can I get gps coordinates? I have no idea where it is. I went one time out of Linwood and stopped at the second pressure crack and dropped lines. (12 ft of water) no luck.

Thanks in advance!

Anyone ever try off the mouth of the Kawkawlin river? I know it gets a good run of walleyes, and people do really well sometimes right before the closure, usually on jis and minnows(no surprise).

I fished out of Linwood yesterday afternoon. I got up there late and had to settle with running straight out and fishing 15 FOW
NOTHING, not even a hit. Fished for 1.5 hrs
The fish didn't want to cooperate. Certain areas of the Pressure crack seemed a little more solid than last weekend, however, there are still several soft spots along the first crack. LOTS OF FISHERMEN! for a thursday evening. Hopefully, I can find em' again this weekend.
Good Luck and Be Safe,

Years ago (before quads) I had a Honda 3 wheeler that I went through the ice on. When I hit bottom just my head was out of the water. I got off the thing, and it shot up like a bobber. I shoved it up on the ice, and started it back up, and it ran like it always did. Then I had to wade around to find my gas auger.and the rest of my gear. After getting out of the water, and back on the 3 wheeler, and heading towards the truck, I didn't go 10 feet, and I was back in the water again. I still have that 3 wheeler, and I think it still has the original spark plug in it. Don't go on the ice anymore with it, but the Grand kids sure enjoy using it.

Kletus, I'm heading out of State Park tonight. I'll be in about 9 FOW before the first crack. I have a burgandy with tan stripe 4x4 ext cab Chevy dually with a small utility trailer and my old Arctic Cat sled. If you are around stop by. I'll either be parked at the state park or at the turnaround just down the road (free parking).

Can everyone imagine how many people would be out there if you could drive your truck past the cracks at linwood, it's already insane how many people are fishing on quads ,and sleds. Be careful especially on quads , on the weekend the traffic gets the cracks all broke up on the edges.

Chuck,
There were 2 trucks parked by the second crack last night and I saw a jeep driving back from way out past the second crack.
A little insane if you ask me. The ice is good, but the cracks definitely have some very weak spots as Doogster found earlier this week.

Well, if you can believe it, I'm going to try in the morning again. Emptied about what seemed like 100 gallons of water from my quad. Water was everywhere. Drained oil and gas, put new in along with a new filter. It took a while, but I've got it running fine again.

Maybe now that the quad got a good washing I'll catch a 14 pounder tomorrow. Good luck everybody, got a report that guys were picking up a few tonight at the 2nd crack. BE CAREFUL!!

I will.....

We took a few just before the second crack off Ericson tonight. Wind was blowing pretty good out there.

The crack was wider when we came back in. Might have been due to all the traffic. Still very manageable. I hate morning fishingout there because I like getting out early. With those cracks I hate to be the first one crossing a spot. I may try tomorrow night or all day Sunday.

Kingfisher - is Ericson just north of Franks? Could you tell me how much water you were in. What you used maybe??

GPS numbers?? Just kidding on that one - there's a ton of room out there - maybe a change of scenery other than Linwood Rd might be good.. Thanks for any help

I have been fishing N Boutell Rd for quite a while. I decided to give Ericson rd a try tonight. Yes, it is North of franks.

I was in 16.5 FOW slightly North of access site, about 3.2 miles out. Your right about the area being so big. We were all by ourselves, the way I like it. Guys are catching fish on just about everything. I have done my best on cleos lately. Blue and chrome were hot, I have done my best the last few trips on orange and copper colored. One guy even said he was limited out on a copper colored Cicada lure.

The majority of the guys were past us about 1/2 mile.

I did mark a lot of fish tonight from 5:30- 6:15.

Sounds like Sunday will be the day, warm temps coming in.

Went off State Park last night (Fri eve). COLD COLD WIND WIND! I'm still thawing out.

I landed 1 nice 4lber for 3 hits. We had about 5 hits all together.

We were right at the first crack in 9 fow straight out of the park. I heard some other guys hooting and hollering so we were not the only ones in the fish.

My "hot" bait was a yellow tail colored (for you trolling guys) spoon with a rattle, tipped with a perch minnow. We did not get any hits on big walleye minnows.

Good luck and stay warm guys!

We fished this morning off of Linwood Road.
COLD, COLD, COLD!!!!!!!I can't remember the last time I felt that cold. Winds 20+mph, Temp around 11 degrees.
Only fished for 2 hours. Ended up with Two nice fish.
Fished near the second crack in 15FOW. Took my gloves off for two minutes and began to feel a burning sensation. I decided it was time to leave! Our Minnow bucket was frozen near solid in 2 hours.

Two TRUCKS! went for a swim at the first crack. One head first, the other tail first. I sometimes wonder what people are thinking?I think they went in yesterday, since they weren't there on Thursday. Good Luck and Be SAFE!

Ya know, I'm not one to criticize people for taking their vehicles out on the ice when there are so many out there. I take mine out there. But when we've had this horrendous wind and now numerous reports of cars and trucks going through the ice, why would anyone take their vehicle out there. Even Canadian Hunter dropped through recently. I just don't get it.

I know the guy in the jeep , nuttier then a fruit cake.
He carries 2, 5ft 2x6's to cross the cracks if he needs to.
He is an aquaintance of my brothers,he's not even catching any ,just talks about how nice and peacfull it is out there.
And cant understand why no one else is driveing out.
Takes all kinds.
