I am going fishing this coming weekend in W. Michigan (preferably near Grand Rapdis/K-zoo). Does anyone know of any good spots I can head to to capitalize on some perch, pike, or any other species. I was thinking of going to Macatawa but I'm not sure where to go to get the fish. Let me konw if you've heard a report in W. Michigan.

Thanks a bunch.....
I'm actually trying to impress my buddies who are coming to visit me so any help you can offer would be awesome.

The fishing was pretty steady for me this weekend with a lot of dinks but a fair number of keeper sized fish. It sounds as though Duckman#1 is still killing them at Carter Lake, I'm thinking about headind out there again to see if i can catch another limit.

Reeds Lake in GR has been producing some real good numbers of specks. I think some good pike too. I don't target them so I'm not quite sure about that. Check this for a report on Lake Mac. (www.americantackle.com)
Good luck! Sid

I was at Reeds lake last Friday and Sat. and limited out both days on Crappie. We were fishing between the boat launch and the fire barn in 46 ft. of water, at lot of limits were taken off the water on Sat.We are fishing 8 to 12 feet of bottom, all types of baits were used, I prefer a 1/8 oz Forage minnow Spoon tipped with a wax worm. I caucht over 50 fish on Sat., keeping a limit of 9 to 10 inchers. They are not the big ones but there are plenty of nice eating size fish, and it's not to far from home. Good luck

hey there. I don't live far from Reeds. I went out last Sunday and got skunked. I was fishing the NW corner for pike and nothing. How far out from the launch do you go? Are they hitting on just waxies and a teardrop? Let me know.

My Son-n-law was fishing with a teardrop and wax worm and he got his limit also. I like the spoons because they fall a lot faster than a teardrop, when your fishing in 45 ft. of water you want something to get down quick. We were about 300yds southwest of the boat launch, there were a ton of people there last Sat. We left at noon so I don't know how it was after that, but we had a great time. Everything was catching fish,if you put it where they were at.You have find out how far off bottom they are, I start on bottom and work my way up turning my reel handle 1 turn every 30 seconds and move up until you find them, There are people out there with flashers, they can help tell you how far off bottom they are. I perfer the fish to tell me where they are at, or at what depth they want to bite at. There were men all around me with flashers and we caught as many and more than most. At times they would say there are no fish down there while we were pulling them in.

Fishnut I told you SW of the launch, That would put you in the middle of the appartment complex on the other side of the road, Never tried fishing there. The area is South EAST of the launch about 300 yrs. Sorry!!!!

Thanks B/D. I'm going out Thursday evening in hopes of getting some of those specks. Hopefully they'll be biting at night. Do you guys use bobbers or just let it sink. I think I might try a splitshot high on the line to get it to the bottom faster. 45 ft. is a long way down. Thanks again for the tips.

The spoons I use are 1/8 OZ they fall fast. I have a long sensitive rod and I work the spoon down, Drop Lure to Bottom tighten up line, raise pole 3 ft.and slowly jig it down. Crappie will hit from under the bait so most people don't see the hit because it comes up not down. Work your way up if you don't contact fish. Spring bobbers work fine, but don't just work 1 depth cover for bottom up to 10-12 ft. off bottom. Might see you out there Thur. night. My son went out Sat. night, I know they got some because I was talking to him on cell phone when he was trying to find the spot, as some as they found it he said he had to go because his buddy just pulled one in, had to stop talking and get a line in water. Didn't talk to him since.
